Vic SRC Congress
During the Term 3 winter holidays two students, Clare Hendy and myself Emily Gundry, represented our school during the three day Victorian Student Representative council Congress where over 300 students came from all areas of the state including regional, rural and metropolitan areas. The event was held at a campus of Melbourne University. Over the course of the three days the two girls became empowered, impassioned and highly involved in issues that students felt needed to be drastically improved inside the education system. We found the experience most rewarding as it not only showed the importance of student voice, but it also showed what change could be affected from people who were the same age as us. They were particularly both shocked and amazed when discovering the Victorian Executives had direct involvement with the Department of Education, when making it a requirement to have student voice represented on all school councils. We both felt very privileged to have had the option to represent our school’s student voice and hope to have the same opportunity in 2019.

SRC Student Voice Workshop
A few weeks ago 3 student leaders from year 10, Warren Rogen, Emily Gundry and myself Clare Hendy and 1 student leader from year 9, Alyssa Goldsmith, were invited to be apart of a Victorian Student Representative Council (Vic SRC) student voice workshop. Many schools from all over the state came together at Mornington Secondary College to work together and identify issues within our school. Each school was faced with a different issue that had to be overcome. It was an amazing learning experince and chance to connect with students from many schools. We all got to share our ideas and get feedback from the other schools about ways to improve our own schools. We were shown many new skills on how to connect with our school and the community. With all these new skills and ideas we hope to take initiative and help make our school a better place.
