Book Week 2018
On Wednesday 22nd August, as part of our Book Week celebrations, we held Read-In Night in Witungga Hall. Some of our year 2 and 3 students performed a 'Find Your Treasure' Song, Tim from Elizabeth O'Grady Kindergarten played the spoons for us and read 'The Bear under the Stairs' and South Australian children's author Jayne Dance had us on our feet dancing to her new book 'Dancing with Ruby'. Our Foundation students delighted in sharing the books they had created themselves and our book trading table was a huge success. We had an incredible turn out! Blankets, pillows and bean-bags covered the floor of the hall and we all enjoyed Hot Chocolates, Tea, Coffee and Mini-muffins for supper. A huge thank you to the fundraising committee and many of our wonderful staff members for helping us to set up and run the night. Thank you all for coming to celebrate Book Week with us - Happy reading!

Book Week Parade 2018
Today we had our Book Week parade for 2018! Room 9 hosted it and organised where everybody was sitting. We saw some AWESOME costumes and everyone was outnumbered by Harry Potters. This year’s theme was ‘Find Your Treasure,’ so people went all out on the pirate theme. They had makeup, pirate clothes, parrots, one person even had a fake peg leg!
This Book Week was one of the best we have ever had, it will be a hard one to beat. Special thanks to Fin, Baylee, Tilly, Lara and Jordan, from Room 9, for doing amazing commentating and an amazing opening and closing speech. Thank you to Mr Webb for organising music and sound.
We hope everyone had a great Book Week!!
Community Walk Rooms 6 and 15
Room 6 and 15 spent a lovely afternoon wandering the Grange community looking at and discussing the heritage sites that surround us. We were fortunate to be accompanied by parents thus allowing us to break into small groups to walk at our own leisure investigating different buildings. This walk coincided with our History topic being changes over time in our local community. It was a positive experience engaging with the beautiful historical buildings and environment that we are surrounded by.
TaikOz Drumming
This week TaikOz visited our school. The Sydney based Taiko company is the only professional Taiko drumming group in Australia.
The trio performed both traditional and contemporary Taiko music. Our students were very enthusiastic about joining the group on stage. Some students were fortunate to be picked to play Yatai Bayashi, a traditional Japanese carnival piece. Students performed a traditional Japanese dance to the mellow sounds of the Shinobue, a Japanese bamboo flute.
