From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been wonderful this week that we have been able to go about our school life with the expected routines and behaviours that we are used to.  Staff, students and parents are working well to ensure we are keeping COVID safe. Parents and carers please continue to ensure you are socially distancing when coming for school drop off and pick up times.

Ash Wednesday and Lent 2021

Due to snap lockout last week, students and staff will be participating in Ash Wednesday liturgies on Thursday 25th February within their class groupings. As students come home this week, I encourage you to have a conversation about what happened at school with the Ash Wednesday liturgy. Click here for some resources that may assist you with conversation.

Upcoming road and pavement works in Taylors Lane - Knox Council

Knox City Council has informed the school that there will be road and pavement works taking place starting next Monday 1st March along Taylors Lane. These works are expected to take three weeks.  There will be traffic management provided by the construction company during the works.

During this time families are to be aware there might be some delays getting to and from school so please plan accordingly.  St Simon’s School will continue its usual before and after school supervision routine.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we collectively ensure that our students and their families are kept safe coming to and leaving from school.

Car park Safety

Recently there have been linemarkings upgraded and additional signage installed in the carparks to strengthen safety and wellbeing for all visitors and students to St Simon’s School.

Historically we all know the St Simon’s car parking routine has had some adjustments over the years to improve safety whilst also maintaining an efficient flow of traffic.

The current practices of the “drive thru” car park are generally working well, including the use of other methods of getting to school including riding or scooting and walking to school after parking only a short distance away.

The following signs have been installed to ensure that driver awareness is maintained on the pedestrian crossing that occurs across the “exit” driveway of the school car park.

Thank you to all parents and carers for doing your part to keep all members of the St Simon’s Community safe.

Annual Financial Audit

This week the school will be undertaking its annual financial review and audit with Deloites.  Like all organisations and businesses, schools undergo rigorous financial reviews including checks and balances to ensure that financial resources are being used and managed appropriately.  This is a necessary step to ensure accountability for the operations of the school.

Thank you to our wonderful administration team, Rita Petracca and Anna Morgan, for the high level of skill and competency they bring to supporting the school. As principal I am very grateful to be surrounded by such a dedicated and diligent team.

I hope you have a blessed week.

God bless
