Student Free Day – Wednesday 17th March 2021

Wednesday 17th March 2021 will be a student free day at Rangeview Primary School. Students do not attend school on this day.

Each year schools receive 4 student-free days (when student instruction does not occur) for professional development, school planning and administration, curriculum development and student assessment and reporting. On this day our staff will be taking part in a full day of professional learning aligned with our Annual Implementation Plan.

OSHClub will be available for students on this day.  https://www.oshclub.com.au

Bookings can be made via the online booking portal or by contacting OSHClub on 1300 395 735.

BYO iPad Program at Rangeview

Purchasing a Device

Our opt-in BYOD iPad program commences for our Foundation students from Term 3 onwards, however I have been contacted by families of students in other levels wanting advice when purchasing a new iPad.

Our Rangeview program only uses Apple iPads as our school network is not suitable for android devices.

The minimum requirement is any Apple iPad with Wi-Fi which can support the required educational Apps.

If you are looking at memory size, there are advantages to an iPad with more memory. An iPad with a higher memory of 64GB or above allows for more storage space, which means that more photos, videos and apps can be used, and for longevity, you may find the higher memory is more suited for your child’s needs as they move through primary school.

By purchasing a new iPad, Apple provides a 90 day complimentary support program as well as a 12 month warranty. Purchasing extra warranty may be something for you to consider.

Please not that iPads with 4G connectivity (SIM cards) are not permitted at school. Our internet service, provided by the Department of Education and Training, is set up to block students from any inappropriate website or application, however a device with a SIM card and its own connectivity can bypass our system and students can access any content available on the internet, posing a safety risk to students.

iPad Storage

It is imperative that student iPads are taken home each evening. The Department of Education and Training does not have insurance for personal property of staff, students and visitors and cannot store personal items overnight. We encourage families to obtain appropriate insurance for items such as personal iPads used for the BYOD iPad program.

You can view the Rangeview Primary School Personal Property Policy on the school website at https://rangeview.vic.edu.au/policies-documents/.

If your child is not participating in the BYO iPad program

If you have opted for your child not to take part in the BYO iPad program, your child / children will have access to school owned shared computers and iPads. They will not be able to take any school owned devices home.

School Hats and Uniform

School hats are a part of the Rangeview Primary School uniform and the correct hat with the Rangeview logo must be worn by students during the high UV months of the year.

We request that all hats be clearly labelled with the student name and their current grade (for example 3T). This makes it easy to return the hat should it be lost around the school.

Hats can be purchased from PSW Uniforms in Croydon or directly from the school office for $16.

Swimming Level 1 and 2

The Health and Physical Education Curriculum in the primary school years includes swimming and water safety in an aquatic setting. By the end of primary school, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills identified in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate. The Certificate is awarded when a student can swim 50m continuously, answer water safety based questions and perform simple rescues.

Rangeview Primary School will be commencing our swimming and water safety unit in Levels 1 and 2 from the start of Term 2, 2021.  As part of the unit, all students will attend Aquanation, Greenwood Avenue, Ringwood, for 5 days from Monday 26th April to Friday 30th April 2021.

Students will learn about water safety in an aquatic setting and will have the opportunity to take part in an intensive 5 day swimming tuition program with qualified swimming instructors. Participation in the program will be recorded in the Semester 2 student report.

As this is a component of the Level 1 and 2 curriculum we encourage all students to take part in the swimming tuition. If your child is unable to take part in the pool, students are still required to attend the centre to continue their learning with their teacher and to observe the lessons. We will not be running alternative programs at school during this time.

Level 1 and 2 families have been emailed permission forms to complete by no later than Friday 19th March 2021, to assist with the organisation of buses and swimming groups. Class schedules, lesson times and what to bring will be provided closer to the date.

Foundation and Level 3 swimming will take place in Term 4, 2021 and information will be provided closer to this time.
