Farewell to Bruce Smith

Staff at Rangeview have been saddened by the news of Bruce Smith's death.

He was a well loved staff member whose work and good nature was appreciated throughout his time at Rangeview.

Bruce was our locally employed IT guru to help students and staff. Bruce played a significant role in the change with IT over the 10 years I have been principal at Rangeview and the years before. He made things work.

Bruce always gave 100% in everything he did in his life and teaching was no different. He worked at Antonio Park PS as a teacher and assistant principal before retiring and taking on the  IT role there as well as RPS.

Bruce was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2020. A number of current staff and retirees joined me with staff from Antonio Park PS at his funeral on Friday. It was a celebration of his life and a recognition of the impact he has had on many people. Bruce was a gentle man and a gentleman.

On behalf of the school community flowers have been sent to his family, Nola his wife and his step children Claire, Naomi and Dale with our deepest sympathies.

Grade 6 New Uniform

Many beaming students could be seen last week wearing their new grade 6  polo tops and jackets.  Their names are printed on the back. We chose this uniform addition because of the quality garments and 2 colour print options through PSW. Both items are unique for grade 6 only and have arrived just in time for their photos on Tuesday.

Grade 5 families will be invited to order their children's tops for grade 6 2022 in term 4 later this year.

Icy Pole Day

Our second icy pole day was on Friday with one more to go. Sam Anderson and I will work with our Junior School Council representatives and our Student Voice leaders to choose their projects at the next JSC meeting. Their JSC badges will be presented to our young leaders at the next senior assembly.

Parent Helpers in Classrooms

We are starting to reintroduce  parent helpers into classrooms in a COVID safe way. Information is being sent out. Foundation parents and grade 1 are invited to attend a parent helpers course this week.

I remind all parent helpers and class ambassadors that you need a current Working With Children Check. The admin team can help you out with this if you are uncertain on how to get one.

2021 School Council Meeting

7pm (in the library or remote) on  Wednesday 24 March to elect office bearers, including President, Vice President, Treasurer and Minute Secretary. This will be the first meeting of the new council.

This council will review our 2020 Annual Report to the School Community. I have included data from the 2020 Parent Opinion Survey in this newsletter and this will be on the school council agenda.

All parents were invited to answer the Parent Opinion Survey in a most challenging year. Survey results (Staff, Parent Opinion, Attitudes to School) are presented to staff and our school council.

This is one section of the data - Parent Community Engagement and this shows an improvement in parent opinion by increasing the positive responses and reducing the neutral and negative. Rangeview is higher than other schools in the state and similar schools for parent perception. More information will be presented to our school council and reported to families through the newsletter and parent forums.

School Photos on Tuesday 16 March

Remember to bring your smiles! Hair accessories in school colours only to go with our school uniform. As a school we wear our uniform with pride.

Pupil Free Day on Wednesday 17 March

Staff will be working in the library during this day with our mathematics consultant Alex Box. Alex used to work as a teacher in our school and has moved into this field of consultancy. She is an inspiring, passionate educationalist and her insight brings another layer to our teaching and learning in Mathematics. This will be a valuable day of professional learning.

OSHClub is operating for this day if families need childcare.
