Year One News

Over the past few weeks, the Year One students have been learning about how to regulate

their emotions. The students are very good at identifying how they are feeling using the Zones of Regulation. For example, when you are in the Blue Zone you may feel sad, scared, or sick. When you are in the Yellow Zone you may feel excited, nervous, or anxious. When you are in the Green Zone you may feel happy, calm, chilled and ready to learn.

Now the students are learning about the Catastrophe Scale, to think about the seriousness of a problem and respond appropriately. The scale ranges are ‘no problem, small problem, bad problem, really bad and catastrophe’.

We would like to invite you to use the same language and strategy at home to encourage the students to be independent and resilient.

We have attached a copy of the Catastrophe Scale for your reference. You may print it out and pop it on the fridge.
