Drama Matters

The Drama Department has organised for Elective Drama students in Years 10 & 11 to attend an Incursion at the Sarto Centre on Thursday 4 March. This is an intensive workshop designed for Drama students working in creating original and dynamic theatre. It will be led by the internationally renowned teacher Guillaume Barriere (National Institute of Dramatic Arts), who will be working with us and guiding the boys through their movement work and the development of their plays. Guillaume trained with Jacques Lecoq in Paris and is an invaluable coach and mentor for our students. The Drama Department will cover the cost of this incursion.

Music Matters

As we begin receiving the first doses of the COVID vaccine, schools have been given updated advice around performing. The latest advice green lights performances with audiences but under a few conditions. Just as we have experienced with sport there is an allowance for one parent/family member per performer. The other rules concern keeping cohorts together and not serving food etc. For those reasons I am pleased to announce that we are planning a return to performances.  We will be going ahead with the performance that is listed in the calendar for this term in Week 9.  We will group Junior, Intermediate and Senior groups together as separate concerts. We will be streaming these performances and for that reason we can make an earlier start to accommodate performances and so students are not “hanging around” at school for longer than necessary. A full list of Ensembles that will be performing will be published shortly.

I am very excited for this our first public performance for over a year. It will also be my first performance at SPX. There are still COVID protocols to follow and I will be releasing these as soon as these have been finalised. For both new musicians and families to SPX I’m sure you will agree this is a great outcome all round.

Further to this Penny Lindley has been working hard with the Drama students on the Climate Change Project. Rehearsals have been taking place on Monday and Thursday afternoons and plans are coming together for a very original and exciting performance opportunity. Filming for this project will be taking place at the end of term. Congratulations to all involved in this project - we can’t wait to see the results.

On a final note could all students ensure that they are at all rehearsals ready to “go”. If you are sick or unable to attend, please let your Director know in advance. This protocol applies for lessons as well.
