Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning

Dr Janine Biggin

It has been wonderful to have returned to onsite learning with students.  As we have progressed through the term, formal assessment is now being undertaken in many year levels.  The term seems to be moving very quickly, and we are fast approaching our Parent Student Teacher Interviews.  I provide some important details about our learning programs and resources for learning in 2021.

Learning Resources on the Booklists 2021

As we make our way through term 1, the materials that were placed on the booklist for 2021 are being utilized in the classroom.  It is very difficult for students to maintain progress if they do not have all the required materials for each subject they are completing.  Unfortunately, teachers are unable to provide copies of copyrighted materials to students, so it crucial that all students have their own copies of classroom textbooks.  In addition, lessons introducing students to how to use the CAS calculator are currently being undertaken in Year 10 Mathematics classes.  The booklists are available on SEQTA if any further materials need to be ordered.  The sustainable school shop is also a potential way to secure secondhand materials for use this year.

EDROLO Learning Materials

The College has arranged for students to utilize EDROLO in a variety of VCE studies.  This is a high-quality program which supports the study of the subject through support videos, assessment, topic tests and summary materials.  Teacher are using these resources in the classroom and setting tasks to be completed as part of VCE study.  These resources provide the necessary support to students to excel in their revision and study of VCE units and will strongly support preparation for the examinations.  Please see prior communication sent via SMS which outlines the procedure for purchasing these resources for use in Year 11 and 12 VCE subjects for 2021.

The Study Skills Handbook

The College is providing all students with access to the Study Skills Handbook for 2021.  This handbook has many surveys, links, lessons and hints for assisting students to get the most out of their learning at the College.  I recommend this resource to all parents, and invite you to access and look at the available materials.  The login details are below:

SEQTA

SEQTA is the best way for parents to communicate with subject teachers.  Teachers are providing outlines of all learning undertaken, and parents can regularly see updates of academic results.  Parents are invited to communicate via Direct Message in SEQTA if they require clarification of anything that appears on SEQTA Engage.

Allwell Assessments

We are pleased that the Allwell assessments were able to be undertaken by our new Year 7 students and all new students in year 8-11.  Parents will receive a letter outlining student achievement on these assessments prior to the end of Term 1.

Parent Student Teacher Interviews Term 1 2021

We are requesting feedback from all parents about how we hold our Parent Student Teacher Interviews.  These interviews are due to be held on Wednesday 31 March and Thursday April 1.  Our usual process is to hold these interviews in person.  However, in 2020, these interviews were held remotely via TEAMs and were very successful.  We are seeking feedback from parents on the preferred approach we take for these interviews at the end of term 1.  Please respond via the link provided in the SMS message.

We all look forward to providing feedback to families about the learning undertaken so far this year.
