Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

There was much excitement on Tuesday, when students in Prep - 3 had the chance to spend time with some of the WBBL and BBL players from the Melbourne Stars Cricket team, as part of the 'Superstars Road Trip'.  During the visit, students participated in a cricket skills clinic with the players.  Our thanks to the Melbourne Stars and the Mount Beauty Cricket Club for their support and coordination of this event.

Throughout this week, students in Years 5 & 6 have been participating in the first of a two-week series of workshops with Artist in Residence Director and Cinematographer, Alison Plasto.  Through a focus on story telling, Alison is guiding students on an in depth journey to record their own stories.  This week students have spent time learning about character development, what makes a good story and the filming process.

On Tuesday, students also had the opportunity to work with actor, comedian and writer, Nicholas Steain, to further explore their characters and how to develop and understand them through drama.  This opportunity has been made possible with support from the DET Recovery and Resilience Student Voice for Recovery project which is being delivered in partnership with Regional Arts Victoria.

The 5/6 ski program is planned to  commence on Thursday 11th August.  Thank you again to those parents/carers who have volunteered their assistance, as we couldn't run the program with out you!   Families are reminded that finalisation of payment for the program is due on Tuesday.  If you haven't already done so and are wanting to use CSEF funds, please contact the office to confirm what funding you have available.

Book Week is just around the corner and already many students and staff have started planning their costumes!  Nicole has been busy organising the Book Fair, which will be running over the 10th and 11th of August, so keep an eye out for more information about this.  The much awaited Book Week Parade will be held on Friday 12th August and we can't wait to see what everyone will choose to come dressed up as!

Planning has also commenced for our Term 4 camps.  This year, students in Years 3 & 4 will be travelling to Melbourne from the 17th-19th October while Years 5 & 6 will head off to Wilson's Promontory from the 18th - 21st October.  We will send home more information to families once details and costs have been finalised.

A reminder that there will be no Canteen until further notice.  We are currently exploring possible options and hope to advise families of an alternate arrangement soon.

Please continue to notify the school if your child tests positive for COVID or is a close contact.  Please also ensure your child understands the importance of wearing a mask indoors, to help keep everyone safe.  RAT kits are still available for collection from the office.
