CREATIVE SHOWCASE NIGHT

By Taye D (School Captain)

Last Tuesday, BHCS hosted it’s first ever Creative Showcase. The night was nothing short of amazing; there was joy, creativity, and excitement in the air. Throughout the night, families, teachers and students enjoyed the art and design students' works from Kindergarten all the way to Year 12, alongside live music from our school bands and delicious food and drinks.

As a Year 12 Student Leader, I came up with the idea of a creative showcase as a way to support and encourage the arts within our community. My fellow Student Leader, Sasha and I both believed it was important to create such an event that would highlight the talent of the students at BHCS and show how much we value their skills. A key influence for the night was to give a voice to the world of art after two years where we have not been able to display our creativity to an audience. Finally last week we were able to do that!

For the past 2 months, we have been in and out of meetings, running around the school to organise food, advertisement, music and, most importantly, the art and design projects for the exhibition. As we were sadly not able to display every single student's work we had to go through a selection process of which works to display, and while every work we came across were all unique and artistic in their own ways, we did have limited space.

The night was a great turnout. Members from our community came and supported the students and this creative project. After the success of the night, we hope to see this project carried out for years to come to strengthen the creativity and love for art in our community. Thank you to all who came to the event. Thank you to the DC, Art department, Hospitality staff and to all the students who were involved and who sacrificed their time to turn this dream into a reality. Believe me when I say it would have not been possible without any of you.

NATURAL PLAY SPACE

By Peter Cliffe (Principal)

I am very excited to let you know that the school has approved the construction of a new, natural play space in the Junior School. The new natural play space will be established in an area we currently refer to as the ‘Wild Space’.

The Wild Space, currently fenced off to students and not used as a play space, is located below our Enviro centre, near the Junior playground. The design of this new natural play space is amazing!

Some of the features we can look forward to include a circular deck over wetlands; bamboo forest; a sensory trail; water play area with hand pump; fire pit with sitting logs; a two-storey fort structure with a cubby, tunnels, net climb, and a high tunnel slide; monkey bars; mud kitchen; and numerous tunnels.

Our students will have a ball in this new area! Once completed, by the beginning of 2023, BHCS will have one of the most amazing natural play spaces of any school.
