Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Many thanks for helping us to accommodate the “Circuit Breaker” weekend. Illness continues to challenge our school, with four teachers contracting Covid-19 during the second half of last week.

We are very grateful to the bank of Emergency Teachers who continue to support us so generously. Mrs Daffy’s organisational skills are something to behold as she juggles the sick, our regular timetable, those on leave or staff that need time for a funeral or to care for another.

The students continue to help us too, as they meet and adjust to the expectations of new teachers and continue to be the most respectful  and cooperative students one could wish for.

I see the canola is flowering and blossom is starting to appear. Spring is coming and with its warmer weather, we trust, better and more consistent health for us all.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM Children who are participating in the Parish Sacramental Program should endeavour to attend one of this weekend’s Parish Masses at St Mary’s.

The Sacramental Team will be at the 6:00p.m. Mass this Saturday, August 20th and the

11:00am Mass on Sunday, August 21.

SCHOOL REVIEW Our school has been conducting a Review of all school operations this year. An external panel of Educational experts will be visiting the school next week to consider the review’s recommendations for the ongoing improvement of our School.

BUILDING PROGRAM As has been mentioned on previous newsletters we are planning to build new toilets for children and staff as part of an extension to the southern or junior wing of our school this year.

There is to be an 18th classroom built as well as accompanying withdrawal and meeting spaces in this area.

The first sign of the build will begin in the next week when we move Ms Sahyoune’s Grade 4 classroom from its present location and place it alongside the other two Grade 4 portables. Therefore Ms Sahyoune’s class will be temporarily housed in our Multipurpose Room while services are re-connected and anything damaged during the shift is repaired. I expect this re-location to last only 1 week.

Plans of the new building are on display in our foyer.

ASSEMBLY We will be conducting an assembly this coming Friday from 9:15am. We are still restricted to inviting only parents whose child is to receive an award unfortunately.

FACE MASKS are HIGHLY recommended. Clearly Covid-19 and the flu continue to pose a health risk in our community and, of course, none of us know where and to whom our germs may be inadvertently spread to. So care is required.

The four reasons that you must wear a mask that apply in our setting are:

1. “If you have COVID-19 or are a close contact and are leaving the premises for a permitted reason.” (such as school)

2. In a public indoor space if you are a close contact. (such as a classroom)

3. On public transport, in taxis/rideshare services and in tourism vehicles.(Such as a school bus)

4.After being tested for COVID-19 and awaiting results. (R.A.Tests will be sent home at least 3 more times during Term 3)

Following these rules will hopefully keep us all healthy and help us to keep our school open.
