Principal News

On Sunday the holy Season of Advent commenced. It is a time of waiting. The well-known Australian Jesuit, Father Tom O’Donovan SJ, a leader and teacher of renown for over 50 years, and always attuned to the rhythm of school life, explained Advent in this way.

The Season of Advent is all about waiting, the waiting for the Coming of our Saviour. This waiting is not only a matter of Faith. Faith leads to trust, to having confidence in God, that he is our loving Father, that he’s concerned for each individual. He knows us. Everything lies open to his eyes. He knows us intimately, thoroughly. Because of that, we can have the utmost confidence that he will look after us, his loving providence will always be there. We need to be, and must always be, people of deep Faith, with an unfailing trust and confidence in a God who loves us and who will always look after us. That is the great message of the Season of Advent: we are people who are waiting, and we will always be waiting. There is always something for us to wait for, until that day when all our hopes, all our longing, all through our lives, is ultimately fulfilled.

Dear Parents, Students and Friends

As I write this newsletter it is bucketing down rain outside. The wet weather we are currently having is in marked contrast to twelve months ago when I was writing my newsletter article about the 46 C temperature and the heatwave! The College hall was being used then for heat relief during student breaks and it is open once again to get out of the rain. The “La Nina” weather pattern looks like it will be around all summer so wet weather arrangements for students looks like being a regular occurrence.

The HSC exams are nearing the final week and a number of students are already finished. The College Graduation Dinner will be held on Saturday, December 4 at the Exies Club and fortunately all double vaccinated parents can now join their graduands and Marian staff for a proper celebration. We wish everyone a successful evening.

Academic Reports for Semester Two are being compiled by staff and will be released on Compass next Friday, December 3. Please contact the College office if you do not receive your student’s report.

Orientation Day

“Oh! Day for year 7 2022 was a great success last Friday. Approximately 150 students attended an action packed day and from what I witnessed they certainly made the most of it. The parent pick-up carpark was a bit frantic in the afternoon and I thank everyone, especially the “regulars” for their patience. Some new parents weren’t aware of the traffic flow and procedures, however I am confident they will soon get the hang of it and the number will reduce as some students will take the bus. A polite reminder to all parents that if you can delay the pick-up time to closer to 3.30pm there is never an overflow onto Macarthur Street.

Peace and Best Wishes
