Year 5 and 6 camp report to Phillip Island Adventure Resort

Finally! Grades 5 and 6 headed to Phillip Island Adventure Resort. The anticipation was high as we arrived early to school to catch the bus. The three-hour trip went smoothly with a stop at San Remo for lunch. Only 10 minutes further on saw us drive into Phillip Island Adventure Resort. It was so exciting as we drove through the extensive resort past many lovely looking cabins and grounds as we kept going down a bush track to our destination, a camp site where we were to unpack and commence putting up our tents with rain looming…. Wait, it was here! We were shown the converted shipping containers that were our bathrooms and then all hid in a hut to wait out the rain. It was then decided that it was for the best to relocate to the lovely cabins we had driven past and looked so longingly at.

After a quick reshuffle of tent/cabin arrangements the students were settled and ready for their first activity, indoor Mini Olympics! The games were fun and challenging and although results were controversial; it appears that Mr Lindsay’s team were the winners. After this there was free time where the students were free to discover the activities available to them, including table tennis and the ever favourite Gaga Pit.

The first night ended with a bus trip to the Phillip Island Penguin Parade, where the students were able to present a cheque of the money raised earlier in the year to sponsor a penguin. The night was wonderful, and we felt very spoiled being the only guests to the parade apart from 1 other family.

Day 2 was spent mostly on-site and included the guided activities of raft making, archery and a low ropes course. I think it’s safe to say that raft making and following racing was by far the most popular of these activities. The giggles and squeals of delight were infectious.

During the afternoon we went for a walk at a nearby nature reserve and at night we were able to snuggle up, eat some popcorn and watch Space Jam.

On the last day we packed up efficiently and set off to the Cowes Foreshore for a walk along the pier and some lunch before jumping on the bus to head home to our families. It was great to get away, the whole group has shown amazing resilience, being able to continually pivot and deal with changes with aplomb.

Phillip Island Fundraiser Presentation

Earlier in the year our Grade 5/6 students organised and run a whole school fundraising event after learning about the impacts of Climate Change on ecosystems. Their chosen recipient was the Phillip Island Penguin Foundation. Last week, students had the pleasure of presenting a cheque to the value of $302.00 on behalf of the entire Teesdale Primary School community.

This mammoth contribution helps to:

- protect and enhance Phillip Island's natural environment through research, conservation and education program

- supports significant native vegetation communities and wildlife populations as well as international migratory bird species within its woodland, wetland and coastal environments

- assist this remarkable biodiversity and quality of ecosystems meaning Phillip Island is one of Victoria’s truly special places

Thank you to all families and community members involved!
