Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty

Dear Primary Families,

Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to attend the Marist Schools Australia Leadership Summit. This event, hosted here at the College, involved all the student leaders and College Leadership Teams of the 18 Marist schools in Queensland, Northern Territory and Northern New South Wales. The Opening Mass was an outstanding celebration of our faith as Marist schools and it was great to see all the students and staff so engaged in a number of special Marist hymns that united us. This extract from ‘Great Man of God’ particularly resonated with me…

Great man of God, Champagnat shone with zeal, Strove thru’ his life, his Master to reveal; With him for guide may we o’er sin prevail, Praise be to Jesus and to His Mother!
“Be of one heart,” he urged in life and death.
“Give all to God, but through our Mother blest.”
“Love one another, take care of the least.”
Praise be to Jesus, and to his Mother

Reflecting on these words, I have no doubt that the great St Marcellin Champagnat would be proud of the legacy he has left that continues to live on here at Marist College Ashgrove. Last week alone we had our Year 5 Leadership afternoon, the Year 5-11 Prizegiving, inter-school debating and a special celebration for World Teachers Day.

This week I look forward to joining to acknowledging a number of students in Years 5 and 6 at our high-achievers morning tea to congratulate them on fantastic results on their Term 3 Report. On Thursday morning Mr Michael Connolly (Pastoral Leader), Ms Mena McLean (Campus Minister) and I will conduct a formation and information session for our Year 5 students who have nominated themselves as potential Primary Student Leaders for 2022. We wish these boys all the best.
