Sport News

Mr Luke Caplick

This morning we presented our victorious 2022 Track and  Field team with copies of the exceptional publication “Passing the Baton” written by John O’Hare and edited by the late Dave Cameron. It is a wonderful way for our Track and  Field athletes to reflect on those that have gone before them and also as a gift to acknowledge 7 successive AIC championship wins. Each book had a sticker put on the inside cover which read:

The Marist College Ashgrove Old Boys’ Association is proud to present this book to all athletes who were part of the final AIC squad competing in the 2021 AIC Track and Field Championships.
The win was a historic 7th Secondary Track and Field title in a row for Marist College Ashgrove which is a first since the College’s inception in the TAS/AIC competition. It was also a historic breakthrough victory for our Primary team, the first aggregate win in the recently formed Junior AIC competition.
Well done to all on your achievement,
Marist College Ashgrove Old Boys’

This sticker was accompanied by a copy of an extra chapter titled “The Magnificent Seven”, written by Head Coach, Robin Martin and also a summary of the 2020 season (6 in Row) written by former Track and  Field Coordinator, David Miles.

QLD All Schools Track and Field Championships 2021 (10-14 Years)

A solid band of junior athletes from 10 years through to 14 years braved the harsh conditions at QSAC stadium 30-31 October. There were some excellent placings across the junior squad with 2 additional medals going with the 6 won in our 15 Years to Opens squad taking the tally to 8 medals which was an excellent return at State level. Further, there were many making Top 8 finals positions and the experience gained across the team was invaluable.

Thanks to Mr Des Davis and Mr Robin Martin who were present through the weekend supporting the athletes. The coaches were certainly impressed with the outstanding efforts and enthusiasm of the athletes both in training leading into the championships and over the weekend. Besides the medal-winning throws with silver to Jonah Miles in the 14 years javelin and bronze to Elliott Aldridge in the 14 years discus, Ben Player was unlucky with a 3rd round foul in the 14 years triple jump that would have medalled but for being slightly over the foul line. Some brave performances also in the middle distance by Asher Parkin, Zac Milligan and Harry Prole. Our primary athletes also competed with the best in QLD and their confidence grew over the weekend. The experience alone at this level of competition will give these athletes an advantage as they set their track and field goals for 2022. Well done to all athletes for your efforts.

If this is of interest to you please complete the attached form with your details. Please note these are not paid positions.

Additionally, we require the assistance of staff, parents, Old Boys and friends of the College to take on the many duties needed to ensure that every student can participate and enjoy all the benefits that playing sport provides as well as ensuring the ongoing growth and development of our sports program across all areas.

Marist College Ashgrove’s success in sport is dependent upon many factors, one being the generosity of members within our community to give of their time and efforts to serve our students by taking on specific roles. These roles include; coach, manager, referee, umpire, scorer etc. If you can help in any way, could you please complete the nomination form via the link below as soon as possible.

All forms received will be compiled into a database. Before each season commences the respective coordinator or a member of the Sports Office will contact those who have expressed an interest to assist. A final confirmation of commitment will be asked, and further details will be given.

I thank all those who were able to assist throughout 2021 and I invite those who would like to assist in 2022 to become involved for the benefit of our students and the College.
