End of Year Awards Assembly

Robinson Centre

End of year awards ceremony

Each year the Ballarat High School hosts an Awards Ceremony, which again has been impacted by Covid-19.

The purpose of this is to recognise and celebrate student achievement for academic and vocational excellence, community service, citizenship, sporting excellence, and leadership. A Community Service Award is also presented to a member of the wider Ballarat High School community by Federal Member for Ballarat, the Honourable Catherine King MP.

It also provides an opportunity for our senior music bands to perform in front of a live audience.

Our School Captains preside over the Awards Ceremony as their last official duty at our school.

Each year the Awards Ceremony has a guest speaker, a former student who shares their journey from their days at Ballarat High School until now.

Normally all award recipients and their family are invited to the evening, which is held at the Wendouree Performing Arts Centre in the last week of term after year 12 VCE results are communicated.

The final award for the evening is to the School Dux, the highest year 12 VCE ATAR score (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).

A large number of local businesses sponsor our awards night, and we thank them for their support.

Unfortunately, again our Awards Ceremony has been impacted by Covid restrictions. This year, like we did in 2020, we will run two separate assemblies at school. Years 7 to 9, and years 10-12, award recipients only. These assemblies will be recorded and uploaded for our community to see. A significant challenge for our school comes from being a large school, with large student numbers and complying with density limit requirements.

Thanks to the Awards Ceremony organising committee, and to the Robinson Centre staff for hosting and recording these assemblies.

In 2022 we plan to be back at the Wendouree Performing Arts Centre with a community event.
