AUSTRALIAN SIGNALS DIRECTORATE (ASD) CYBERSECURITY AND ROBOTICS WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY

Monday 19 September - Friday 23 September | ASD, Canberra 

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is the national authority for information security. Through its Work Experience Program, ASD offers students from Years 11-12 an opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), with a focus on information/cybersecurity.

 

High achieving Year 10 students with a strong interest in this field are also encouraged to apply and may be considered for a placement.

 

The ASD Work Experience Program offers a number of challenges designed to increase STEM knowledge and understanding, such as:

  • Python programming
  • Identifying security intrusions on a computer system
  • Identifying email compromises
  • Monitoring network traffic to detect exploits
  • Conducting forensic examinations of hard drives
  • Exploiting web application vulnerabilities
  • Learning modern encryption methods and how they are used to protect data
  • Performing geospatial analysis and utilising geospatial tools for imagery analysis
  • Engineering hardware and software solutions for security problems
  • Robotics programming using Arduino
  • Constructing electrical circuits

The Work Experience Program runs out of Canberra. Interstate students are encouraged to apply; financial assistance may be available.

THE AVIATION CAREERS MENTOR PROGRAM

Thursday 30 June - Thursday 29 September | 2 hours per month | Online

The Aviation Careers Mentor Program is open for applications now! The Program is designed to help women access exciting career opportunities across the aviation industry, focuses on defining aviation career goals and building a plan to achieve these goals with the guidance of supportive women in industry.

 

The program runs for three months and provides you with aviation career opportunity awareness and training pathway options as well as invaluable contacts and industry insights.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DRAMATIC ART (NIDA) ONLINE - INTRODUCTION TO ACTING

Join one of our Introduction to Acting workshops to be introduced to the fundamental skills of an action-based acting technique. Connect to your inner playfulness, be present in the moment and learn to create character.

WHITEHOUSE INSTITUTE OF DESIGN ILLUSTRATION AND PORTFOLIO ONLINE WORKSHOP

Saturday 4 June | 10:00am - 12:00pm | Online

 This online workshop is for aspiring designers and recommended as a starting point for those wishing to develop their illustration skills and create a portfolio for application to the Bachelor of Design program. In this 2-hour workshop, you will gain an understanding of how to illustrate with marker and paper, experiment with different multimedia materials and learn techniques for presenting your creative ideas.

 

This workshop focuses on the following areas of skill development including:

  • Illustration techniques
  • Application of pencils, professional markers and felt-tip pens for professional rendering
  • Brief analysis of trends and preparation of illustrations to compliment a mood board
  • Exploring an individual design aesthetic
  • Beginners portfolio development and learn how to present your work for application to the Bachelor of Design program.

STUDENT EXCHANGE AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND ONLINE INFORMATION SESSION

NATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE FORUM (NYSF) 2023

Tuesday 10 January - Tuesday 24 January

Applications are now open for current Year 11 students who want to be a part of the National Youth Science Forum in 2023! The NYSF's Year 12 program offers an exciting range of in-person and digital science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) experiences for participants across Australia.

 

In 2023, students will have opportunities to:

  • Participate in tours of science and technology facilities, and learn about cutting edge research
  • Engage with industry partners and research providers
  • Learn about university and STEM career pathways;
  • Mix with other like-minded students from all over Australia
  • Network with former NYSF participants to further increase understanding of STEM related study and career experiences

NYSF offers Access and Equity Scholarships to students who require additional financial assistance due to experiencing financial or other forms of disadvantage or will incur additional costs to fully participate in the Year 12 Program. Information regarding Access and Equity Scholarships, including how to apply, will be sent to successful program applicants later in the year.
