On Thursday 17th June, 14 students from Year 9 and 10 competed in the Girls Rugby 7's Carnival at Conolly Park. The day was wet, muddy and miserable however this did not dampen the girl's enthusiasm. They performed strongly with a convincing win over Mater Dei and a close loss to Hennessy. This saw us play off against eventual winners Temora in a very close semi-final. A big thank you to Mick McTaggart for training and coaching the team.

Last Thursday, the Under 13’s KCC Rugby League team participated in the Wagga Division in Round 1 of the NSW Country Cup Championships. KCC played fixtures against TRAC, Mater Dei CC, Kooringal HS and Wagga HS on a cold, wet day at Paramore Park.

The team started the day with a dominant 24-0 win over Kooringal. Tries were scored by Kobe Gustowski (2), Kaden Dowling and Hamish Inglis. This win provided great confidence to the team and laid a great foundation for the day.

In the second fixture against Wagga High, we had many positional and player changes which resulted in Wagga High being able to apply some more pressure on us and provided some periods of concern during the match. Despite this, the team still managed a comfortable win in the end, finishing up 20-12 victors. A double to Kaden Dowling highlighted his good form, as did another try to Hamish Inglis and Cooper Connolly also crossed the line.

The last two fixtures were against the danger teams of the competition in Mater Dei and TRAC. Both games were hard fought and in the balance right up until the final whistle.

The fixture against Mater Dei was the match of the day. Both teams were equally capable and KCC started slow in the first half, lacking intensity, resulting in low completions of sets and poor field position, providing MDCC with confidence and control of the game.  Kaden Dowling scored his 4th try of the day to keep us in the game, however, Mater Dei looked like they would hold on for a 6-4 win until a very determined individual effort close to the MDCC try line resulted in Hamish Inglis crashing over with only seconds remaining in the game to seal 10-6 victory for KCC.

Therefore, a  win against TRAC in our final fixture would decide the Wagga Champions. Once again, the team started slowly and the first half was an arm wrestle, a try to Seb Osario-Bradley enabled a 6-6 scoreline at halftime. The second half was a different story, the team re-focused and started getting the upper hand over TRAC. Kaden added a 5th try to his already impressive tally for the day and Cooper Murphy flew down the sideline with some great speed and footwork to put the result beyond doubt. The final score was 16-6 and gave KCC the overall title for the day.

It was a wonderful team effort throughout the day, with many individuals playing very well, in difficult conditions. Special mention must go to the player of the competition, Captain, Angus Banks. Angus who was outstanding all day whilst also providing good leadership and accurate goal kicking. Other notable individual contributors throughout all games were Kaden Dowling, Hamish Inglis, Tom O’Shea and Seb Osorio-Bradley. A big thanks to trainer Jody Siegwalt for his help on the day.

Congratulations to all the boys and hopefully we can continue the success at the Riverina Championships next week.
