WE GATHER

Today is the feast day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

We think of the heart as the centre of our emotions. We speak of a heavy heart, a broken heart, a jealous heart, a sinking heart, a hard heart, a burning heart, a joyful heart, a loving heart…

Take a few quiet moments to tune into your own heart. What are you feeling today? You might choose one of the following hearts to help you identify what is in your own heart at this moment.

Today, we celebrate the love of Jesus through the image of his loving and tender heart. If we see the heart as a symbol of love, we can experience Jesus Christ the greatest lover of all. His human heart broke open with love – especially for those who were suffering. Through the opening of his heart, we can find the very essence of God. Such is the love that has captured our hearts.

WE LISTEN

I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you.

I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.

Ezekiel 36: 26

WE RESPOND

God of Love, the heart of Jesus, your beloved Son, is moved with compassion for all who are lost, all who search, all who hunger and thirst for justice. Open our hearts to receive the abundant love poured out so richly from the heart of Christ who lives with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

WE ARE SENT

On the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we showed our love by standing in a Circle of Solidarity at recess around the central courtyard demonstrating compassion and welcome for refugees during Refugee Week.

We observed a minute of silence and concluded by praying the Lord’s Prayer together.
