Luna Community Report

Term 3, 2022

Congratulations Luna Preps on your 100 days of school! We could not be prouder of your achievements so far this year!

The Prep students had a wonderful day celebrating their 100th day of school. We made our own certificates, 100 day crowns and dressed in our PJ’s. The disco was a highlight of the day with everyone having a boogie with a smile on their face.

Reading

This term, Luna students have been reading narrative books. Our community has been exploring the main parts of a narrative which the students use in their writing too. Students have also been learning a new heart word every day. We encourage you to practice with the kids the heart words that they bring at home each week as well! Our Luna Preps have also started learning digraphs and listening to, identifying and spelling words by sounding them out.

Writing

Our community of writers this term has been writing their own narratives. Luna students have been learning about the main parts of a narrative: beginning, complication and resolution. They have been working on brainstorming ideas and planning their narrative thinking of what the setting, characters, problem and solution in their story could be. Independently, our Luna students have attempted drawing and writing the beginning, complication and resolution of their own story. The students are excited to write sentences by sounding words and attempting to write letters they know and heart words they have learned.

Maths

In maths, Luna Preps have been learning about collections of objects. The students have practised making, comparing and ordering collections and problem solving. Our Preps have also been identifying what number is more or less than other numbers, what number comes before and after a number and identifying the names of shapes.

Inquiry

For inquiry, Prep students are learning about cultural diversity. The students have been exploring what is familiar and what is different in the ways culturally diverse individuals and families live. Students have been looking at and learning about different types of food, music, games, and have also been practising saying “hello” in 15 different languages.

SEL

The past few weeks in Luna, our kids have been learning about good and bad decisions. They have been exploring the meaning of right and wrong, things that are good and bad to do at home and at school and how we can change our bad choices to good ones instead. This week, Luna kids are also introduced to problem-solving. They will be working on identifying different problems and using a catastrophe scale to rate it as small, medium or huge. This will help them gradually understand what the right reaction to a problem would be.

Luna Movement

In semester 2 the Luna students will have 1 session of Luna Movement a week. These sessions include students using different motor skills during exercise.

NAIDOC Week

During the first week of term 3, we celebrated NAIDOC week. We celebrated NAIDOC week to show acknowledgement and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Congratulations to the Students of the Week
