P.E and Sport

Teachers: Amber & Pepe

What have we been doing in PE?

Welcome Pepe!

We have been very lucky this term to have a second Physical Education Teacher join us. This means that the 3-6 students have been getting two P.E lessons a week - one focusing on skills and the other on gameplay and teamwork.

Luna & Achilles Communities (Preps)

So far in Term 3, the Luna and Achilles communities have started a Perceptual Motor Program (PMP). It is a movement-based program which helps younger students improve their eye/hand and eye/foot coordination, fitness, balance, locomotion and eye-tracking skills. We have set up obstacle courses, throwing & catching activities and even a dance station where they have been learning "The Nutbush".

We have also managed to get the 5/6 students on board helping us run these sessions and they love it! We can't wait to see the Prep students use their skills at the Commonwealth Games!

Argus, Xenica & Ulysses Communities (Year 1&2)

The Argus, Xenica & Ulysses Communities, are being introduced to striking and fielding sports. We have looked at Cricket and Tee Ball where we have been practicing our throwing, batting and fielding skills. Students have also been playing modified games of Cricket and Tee Ball, learning about boundaries and teamwork. They have already improved over the past 6 weeks and we can't wait to see them progress even more in the future!

We are now moving into some activities which will also be included in our upcoming Commonwealth Games Day! These activities focus on Fundamental Motor Skills including, throwing, catching, kicking, running and jumping. We can't wait to see them use their new skills in September!

Apollo & Icarus Communities (Year 3&4)

The 3/4 communities are also learning about some striking and fielding sports. We have begun with modified Tee Ball games and have progressed to an actual game involving bases. Students had the opportunity to try out baseball gloves and practice their overarm throws and catches with them on. We have also looked at Cricket and now we are about to start Tennis!

In our second session of P.E, we have been learning a bunch of new games where teamwork is the focus. The 3/4's are now Pokemon Masters and have nailed their Kung Fu fighting moves! They have also discovered Capture the Flag and will be introduced to the fast-paced game of Quidditch!

Monarch Community (Year 5&6)

So far in Term 3, the 5/6 students have been improving their striking and fielding skills as well. Like the 3/4's, we started with Tee Ball but have progressed to Softball. We have also dedicated 2 weeks to Cricket skills and are about to start Tennis!

For our second session, the Monarch Community have been Making It Rain and have outscored each other in Ten Bin Bowling. They have also been practicing the two Gala Day games which are Capture the Flag and End Zone.

What have we been doing in Sport?

District Athletics

On August 10th, we sent a team of 41 students to compete in the Craigieburn District Athletics Day. We were very excited as we haven't had a District Athletics since 2019 due to Covid! We had some absolutely brilliant results and have 12 students progressing to the Woodland's Division Athletics Championships which will be held on Tuesday, September 6th.  Our school also placed 3rd overall in the Craigieburn South District! Congratulations everyone, we are very proud!

Winter B-League Gala Day

On September 2nd, we will be sending forty 5/6 students to compete against the rest of the schools in the district in 2 games: Capture the Flag and End Zone. This will give an opportunity for those students who haven't been to a Gala Day to compete. Watch this space for results...

3-6 Sports Club

This term we have begin a 3-6 Sport Club run by myself and Pepe. This is held every Friday during lunchtime. Students are given V.I.P access if they have done an amazing job during the week in P.E classes! We have activities such as Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, giant Jenga, giant Connect 4, giant Chess and more!

School Sport Equipment

We have now distributed all borrowing sports equipment to classes from P-6! It's been great seeing so many active students during break times.
