Term 3

In the Garden

Despite the cold weather there is plenty to do in the garden.

Shella and Tahlia planted a new potato crop.

Other students chopped food for our hungry worms, weeded the indigenous garden, relabelled our beds, crushed and spread egg shells around the pak choy crop and planted more spring onions. One child stood back observing the garden and commented, “This looks so different than when we started at the beginning of the year.” His pride and pleasure was evident.

In the Kitchen

We are exploring pasta making over the next few weeks. We had so much fun making the dough and then using pasta makers to create delicious fettuccine. For some, using their hand to mix sticky eggs was a challenge to begin with, but everyone persisted. We added a burnt butter sage (from the garden) sauce. You can make pasta even if you don’t have a machine. Go online and do some searching – there are lots of hints and ideas.
