Assistant Principals

As the end of Term 2 nears, I would like to acknowledge the commitment and effort of both staff and students over recent weeks. With absences being prevalent throughout the term (of both students and staff), the RSC community has worked hard to support the continued teaching and learning for all!

The past weeks have seen a variety of activities and connections with our broader community: the inaugural Parent Connect event (notes available here via the hyperlink), Mabo Day celebration, Staff Cancer Council morning tea fundraiser, NAPLAN, Music concerts, School Sport Victoria (SSV) skateboarding sessions and Year 9 Morrisby interviews just to name a few. Students were at the forefront in planning the food van to acknowledge Mabo Day. This connects the staff professional learning around Indigenous history and marks our growing connection with Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place. The coffee/food van was complemented by a powerful playlist that recognised and acknowledged Australia’s growing understanding of different ways to Be Brave and Make Change and build real reconciliation.

Our Year 10 and 11 students have recently completed their Semester 1 exams. While many students have worked diligently towards these exams, undertaking the process of exam preparation is a vital learning to help prepare students for their final years of secondary school. We hope that students have been able to reflect and identify their best and the necessary study techniques and practices which assist their preparation in undertaking future exams. This is a valuable learning experience that students should look to continue to focus on this year and beyond.

Thank you to both the Middle and Senior School Teams, along with our exam supervisors in their efforts and ongoing work to both organise and conduct these two exam periods for our students.

The close of Term 2 will see the Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) come to an end for students in Years 8, 9 & 12 who were involved in the program. We hope that participation in the program has been a positive and supportive experience, which has helped to set-up the remainder of 2022 for learning success.

In Term 3, this TLI program will look to support identified students from other year levels. Identification of these students is currently underway. Communication with these students and families will occur early in Term 3. Thanks to our Tutor Teachers for their efforts in working with students and staff throughout this semester and to our families for their assistance.

Semester Reports will be published in early Term 3 but with the rich ongoing feedback available through COMPASS, students are urged to discuss their learning progress with their families, and in particular exploring which strategies worked (or didn’t work). This is healthy way to view assessment: as a method of witnessing personal growth and development, and an opportunity to celebrate learning.

We wish all staff and students a well-deserved break over the holiday period. Hoping you return feeling energised and recharged for Term 3. Also, good luck to our Year 10 students as they embark on Work Experience during the final week of this term.
