Leadership Report

Magill School life is very busy at the moment, as we head into our last fortnight before a well earned mid-year break. I have been amazed at how well our staff and students have navigated a tricky term due to the high number of absences across the school.

Our Teachers and SSOs have been amazingly flexible and understanding in dealing with the myriad of timetable changes we've had to make to cover absences. Many of our teachers and SSOs come to work each day not exactly sure if they will doing their normal duties or if they will be asked to cover other duties. Throughout all of this chaos, a calm and engaged learning environment has prevailed. Most impressive!

Believe it or not, we're starting our planning for 2023 and it is critical that we have accurate information to help us plan our staffing requirements for next year. Reception enrolments are due by the last day of this term. If you have a child due to start Reception or any other year level in 2023, please make sure you have contacted the school and placed them on our register as soon as possible.

Teachers are finalising reports, which will go home on Wednesday 6th July. It has been particularly difficult for teachers this year due to so many students missing large blocks of learning. Teachers will base their decisions on assessment information completed in class. For some students, this will mean that there is not enough information for a teacher to accurately assign a grade. Our rescheduled Learning Conversations will be held early next term. These conversations will provide the perfect opportunity to reflect on the year so far and discuss goals for the second half of the year. Booking information will be sent out in the first week of term 3.

Our building project is currently going through government processes and whilst we haven't been given a date yet, we anticipate that work will begin mid to late term 3. In the meantime, we're beginning our preparations to move our Reception and Year 1 classes out of the Penfold open space building.  This largely involves preparing the spare rooms around the school and our Resource Centre to host classes. We have to dispose of much of our old furniture as storage is limited. There are also many years of resources that we've collected that all need to be sorted and either stored or disposed of. You will see large bins on site over the coming term as we work through this process. Our hope is to be ready to move classes within a month of getting a fixed date for work to commence. Exciting times ahead!
