PE and Health

In PE students in all year levels continued to develop their skills and abilities in Gymnastics including jumping, leaping and landing safety to understanding how their body moves through forward roles, bunny hopes, cartwheels, crawling through hoops, skipping and more. Students have thoroughly enjoyed this unit of work and it has helped them develop skills that they will use in other sports and activities.

During health students have continued to explore the idea of stress and how to manage our own stress levels and things we can do to reduce our stress levels, including taking deep breaths, doing some exercise, doing things we enjoy and even talking to someone about how we feel. Students are receiving some great tips to improve their mental and physical health.

Interschool Sports

Last week our AFL and Netball teams had a friendly game against Kingston Health Primary School. We struggled for number so had to swap players around to allow for an even game. Both teams had a great time and showed great sportsmanship working with each other and the other schools. It was the final round of winter sports before the lightning premiership which is happening today.

Visual Arts & Culture Studies

Last week, Culture lessons were incorporated with Visual Arts by creating different Japanese Art pieces. The Foundation and 1/2 students were able to make Japanese koi fish kites. Our 3/4 students created Japanese cherry blossom trees by using paint, cotton buds or tissue paper. The 5/6 students continued to learn about the Japanese culture by creating their own Notans Design art piece that represented balance and harmony.

This week, students were introduced to our Australian Indigenous Culture, where they learnt about all the different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders languages. Students were able to understand the significance of ‘Welcome to Country’ and how to say ‘Welcome’ in our Woiwurrung Language of the Wurundjeri people of Kulin Nation, ‘Wominjeka’.  Students began to draw images that showed the connection between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and the land, water and community.
