Junior Learning Community

We have had a wonderful return to school this Term. It was great to see so many smiling faces on the first Monday and it was great to hear of so many wonderful experiences that were had in the holidays.

This Term our Inquiry unit ‘How can we be Healthy?’ focusses on our minds, bodies and diet. All the teachers are excited for this unit as we have many speakers coming in to discuss how we can look after our body.

So far we have discussed how we may have a Healthy Mind. We have revised how having a positive and growth mindset helps keep our mind healthy, we have also discussed sleep and meditation.

As we move forward in the unit we will begin to discuss how exercise and movement keeps our bodies healthy.

In Writing, we have begun to look at Narrative stories. This week, we have looked at the elements of a story, the characters, setting, problem and solution. The children will have the opportunity to write their own narratives and we look forward to seeing the children flex their creative muscles during these sessions.

We have started the Term in Mathematics learning all about Time. The children are consolidating their knowledge of o’clock and half past, we are beginning to understand further times such as quarter past and quarter to. Over the next week, we will begin to look at elapsed time and calendars, with focus on days of the week and months.

Our first unit within Religious Education is Baptism. It has been lovely to hear about where children were baptised, what the symbols of Baptism are, and how Baptism is an important part of our faith journey. As we explore this topic further it would be a lovely chance to discuss your child’s Baptism at home with them, we will be sending an email requesting Baptism photos or items that children may bring in from their Baptism so please keep an eye out.

We are excited for many things to come.

Term Three is going to be a busy term.

We are looking forward to our Athletics Carnival and Book Week Parade both in August. We have also introduced new Performing Arts activities this term which will be a fantastic addition to our curriculum. All the children are getting their dancing feet on!

We hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Senior Learning Community

Welcome back to Term Three! It was lovely to hear about students' adventures over the holidays and hearing that many families got a nice relaxing break. The students are feeling refreshed for another wonderful term of learning.

Grade 6 students were lucky enough to attend Notre Dame’s School production of Legally Blonde last Wednesday.  All students thoroughly enjoyed the show with laughter being heard all throughout. It may have even inspired some of our students to get involved when they start high school next year.

For the next five Wednesdays we see students participating in Inter School Winter Sports. This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to try out different sports and demonstrate sportsmanship. Students have been placed in mixed teams for Netball, T-Ball, Soccer and Handball. Students should come dressed in their sports uniform on these days. We are still on the hunt for some parent helpers so if you think that you might be able to help please let us know.

As part of Italian this term students are working as classes to create a Screenplay that addresses the question ‘How Can We Look After Our Marine Life?’ These will then be entered into a competition. There are many aspects of making a screenplay and students will be involved in many tasks from script writing, costume design, audio leaders, directors and actors. It will be fabulous to see it all come together as the weeks progress.

From the students.

Throughout Term Two and Three children that chose to do ASPA education instead of sport have started learning songs and dances for the ASPA Education Program Concert, for Week 8. We have learnt a dance choreographed by our 5/6 teacher Mrs Austen. The ASPA workers have come and taught us a song called 'One Brick at a Time' and  another dance called 'We are all in this Together', that we will do with all the other schools on the program.  We have enjoyed the lessons and are very grateful that we have this opportunity to learn, lead and celebrate with our school community.

Year 5 Mini Vinnies - 5 Cent Friday's

This year the year 5 students will be organising a major fundraiser. This money will be going towards a school 30 minutes outside of Lismore which was highly affected by the 2022 floods.  St. Joseph's Primary School in Coraki NSW had their sports sheds, school canteen and storage sheds destroyed during the floods. However their families lost everything with the school classrooms becoming evacuation points for the townspeople. Many classrooms had beds set up with families creating makeshift screening to create privacy. Many students are currently still living with family and friends with a few continuing to live in tents on the school grounds as their homes continue to be uninhabitable. Families lost homes and business and were cut off from the outside world for weeks following the devastating

floods with no electricity or phone services.

We have decided to create a fundraiser to allow the school to assist those in their community who most need it.

Each Friday of Term 3 we will be collecting five cent pieces. We are calling it our '5c Fridays'. If students could please donate 5c pieces each Friday to our collection it would be greatly appreciated. Students can bring in as many as they wish to assist. Please if you wish to donate other coins these will also be accepted. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Thompson at school.
