Teaching and Learning in 1S

We have had a very busy start to Term 2 in 1S. We have been participating in number talks to share our ideas on how we see numbers and collections. It is amazing how someone has one idea and someone else sees the same thing differently. We have started to investigate and discover all of the different Australian coins and what they can be used for. We have also started exploring all of the different strategies to add numbers together using counting on, locking in the biggest number and using number lines.

In Literacy, we have been exploring different narrative stories such as “Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book” and “Zog.” The students in 1S have started identifying the characters in the story, where the story is happening and making predictions on what could happen next. In writing, we have been creating our own characters and setting by using drawings and adding describing words. Finally, during spelling lessons, we have been focusing on the /LL/, /SS/ & /ZZ/ sounds in words.

Since the start of term, we have been very busy practising for our assembly performance with the rest of the Year 1 classes. We are performing on Monday the 8th of May in the LPAC centre. In 1S we love a brain break, our favourite brain break is Just Dance, where we get to sing and dance to some of the best songs. This helps us refocus for our next learning activity.

It has been a busy start to Term 2, but already we have achieved so much in 1S. We are looking forward to kicking more goals as the days and weeks go by.
