Year 7s are Roman Around

As part of their study of Ancient Rome, our year 7 students have been fortunate to participate in an incursion exploring the daily life, military, and gladiatorial combat of Ancient Rome. Students who volunteered were able to dress up as patrician or plebeian families, soldiers, or even the Emperor! Students learned about how dress dictated your rank and role in society and what a soldier’s life would be like in the Roman Army.

Excitingly, many of our students were also able to partake in gladiatorial combat against one another – safely, of course! They were taught how to use the weapons of different types of gladiators and engaged in a fight to see who would emerge victorious!

Reflections on Roman Incursion

During Week #7 of Term 2, Year 7 students spent time exploring Ancient Roman life through dramatic performances and interactive activities.

Cathy from 7J1 really enjoyed the experience, as she learnt a lot of new things about Ancient Romans. She also liked the cool props, including the earwax spoon thing and the toilet paper brush sponge thing that helped us understand how toileting worked in Ancient times.

Pascale from 7J1 liked how all of the three Johnston classes got together to learn about Ancient Romans. She also liked the swaggy armor, especially the chainmail costumes.

Overall both thought that the presentation was a good way of showing and teaching the civilisation of Ancient Rome.
