Year 12 English

Lucinda Cottier

On Thursday 11th May, Year 12 English students were given the opportunity to speak to Jane Harrison about her play 'Rainbow's End'. An incredibly powerful opportunity for the students, it provided them with a unique chance to gain a deeper understanding of the text and its themes and to hear directly from the playwright about her intentions and inspirations. Harrison's insights into the characters and the historical context in which the play is set were invaluable and her discussion of the creative process behind the play was fascinating. Moreover, the students were able to spend 45 minutes asking Jane their own questions about the text, which allowed them to explore their own interpretations and deepen their engagement with the play. The session was an enriching and inspiring experience that left the students with a greater appreciation for the power of storytelling and the importance of understanding our shared history.

From  Lucy F. of Year 12:

This month, our school has continued to provide the best opportunity for our senior students, as the Year 12 students had the privilege of being involved in a WebEx with Jane Harrison, the playwright of our current text for study, ‘Rainbows End.’ We were able to gain insight into the themes and symbols presented in the play and took advantage of asking Jane Harrison direct questions. It was such a beneficial occasion to be one of the few schools given access to interact with the playwright. Thanks to Ms Scobie and Ms Cottier for organising the after-school event!
