Assistant Principal Report Senior School

By James Cumming

We have welcomed the senior school students back with a busy start to term 2. The students have settled back into their scheduled classes and attended a range of events.

On Friday May 5th year 11 students attended the VCE and Careers expo in Caulfield. The expo is the largest of its kind in Victoria and provides resources and information for the VCE, tertiary courses, career options, study strategies, the gap year and much more. A feature of the Expo is the seminar program on VCE subjects, study and career advice. The year 11s had a great time discovering options and opportunities available to them and meeting with exhibitors from across Australia.

The Year 12 Formal was also held on Friday the 5th of May. The students enjoyed a fun filled evening including a three-course meal, awards and dancing. Congratulations to the students who created the year 12 formal video, it was enjoyed by all staff and students.

The General Achievement Test will be conducted on Thursday 15th of June. The General Achievement Test is administered by VCAA and is taken by all students completing senior secondary studies. The test plays an important role in moderation and quality assurance of VCE assessments and that students meet the minimum standards literacy and numeracy levels. During VCE Program, senior school staff are continuing to deliver a series of workshops focusing on the literacy and numeracy sections of the test to improve the outcomes for our students.

Year 10 and 11 exams will run from the 29th of May until the 7th of June. Parents and students can access all the relevant information via the Compass Newsfeed. Students must ensure they have checked their exams dates and times as well as referred to the exam protocols.

The year 10s will be completing work experience from the 13th to the 16th of June. Work experience provides our students with an opportunity to gain real world insight into their chosen career path. Work experience documentation was due on Friday 5th of May, work experience forms will no longer be accepted due to processing times. Students who have not secured work experience will be required to attend school as per normal.

If you are in need of some light entertainment and a good laugh, the Year 11 Theatre Studies Production will be running on Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th of May, starting at 7pm. The play ‘Leading Ladies’ is a comical play set in York, Pennsylvania during the 1950s. Tickets can be purchased using the following link https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=1055419&

I look forward to working with the senior school students throughout the remainder of Term 2.
