We're proud to share that Year 9 students Lucy Allen and Tibby Herzfeld had the honour of representing Mount Carmel at the UN Youth Australia State Conference in April. Hosted by UN Youth Tasmania, the conference brought together over 30 young delegates from  across the state for a weekend of leadership, diplomacy, and advocacy.

Lucy and Tibby had the opportunity to engage in interactive workshops on international law, listen to expert speakers, and participate in a simulated crisis activity. The final day of the conference allowed them to showcase their diplomatic skills during Model UN debates, where they honed their public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills.

In addition, they also had the chance to connect with other like-minded students from across the state and engage in discussions about contemporary global affairs.

“The United Nations Youth State Conference was an incredibly valuable experience with an amazing bunch of talented people from all over the state. I gained so much knowledge surrounding warfare and international law, particularly the roles of women in these situations, and it culminated with the opportunity to represent a country in a Model UN structured debate (I represented Japan). I am so grateful for the opportunities I received and the people I met. I never knew that it would only take three days to feel like I had known these amazing people forever! These three days sparked a curiosity around a topic that I hope to learn more about in the coming years. This will be an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life!”
