Structured Workplace Learning Recognition Program

Structured Workplace Learning Recognition Program – Connecting Students to the Workplace
Structured workplace learning recognition (SWLR) provides an opportunity for students to apply the skills and knowledge they have learnt in their VCE VET program within an appropriately matched workplace placement. The learning experiences help students to relate the theoretical information to a real-world work context and develop their employability skills.
The benefits of this program are as follows:
- Keeps students engaged in their chosen studies
- Provides a pathway for students to obtain traineeships or apprenticeships in their chosen work field
- Enhancement of skills development
- Practical application of industry knowledge
For the first time this year, students in Years 11 & 12 who are studying a VET certificate had the opportunity to participate in the SWLR program as part of their VCE. Forty students across Years 11 & 12 are in the program as timetabled class and most are undertaking their placement one day a week on a Friday.
Throughout the year students will learn various skills to work in industry as well as undertake pre-placement, during placement and post placement tasks. Upon successful completion of the SWLR placement and work requirements, students in the program will receive two unit credits towards their VCE in the same way VCE subjects do.
