Around Our School

Harmony Day

This year, the SLC and International students celebrated Harmony Day on Thursday 21 March. Staff and students from different backgrounds came together and celebrated the amazing diversity that is present in this school. The International team and SLC Events team worked together in order to run this delightful event. It is very important to celebrate Harmony Day to recognise our diverse community, regardless of our differences. SLC students brought food from their culture to share, and SLC students cooked a sausage sizzle for everyone to enjoy. Everyone was able to interact and share their culture with each other. Thank-you to Miss Georgie Long and Mrs Sharon Koning for helping us to organise this event - our Harmony Day celebration was a success due to the inclusiveness of all cultures in Frankston HIgh School!

Casual Dress Day

On 29 March the SLC ran Frankston High School’s first Casual Dress Day of 2019, in support of the charity Dogs for Kids with Disabilities. Thank you to all SLC members for their hard work and everyone who donated and participated in the day’s activities. From the donations given, we raised a huge amount of $2736.20. This included:

  • Junior School: $1084.70
  • Middle School: $759.20
  • Senior: $595.30

And a special mention must go to Ellen Konopcik (Year 7A), who donated $40 from her pocket money!

During the day, many activities were organised by the SLC Casual Dress Day team, including a bake sale on both campuses in conjunction with the LEAD class and a lollies in a jar competition, which raised nearly $300 - an amazing effort by everyone! Congratulations to Oscar Menzies (Year 8M) who was the winner of this competition.

The SLC were supported by Sports Leadership who held a dodgeball tournament on the 7-10 Campus. Other activities on the day included drama games and a movie was screened in the library. We would also like to thank all staff involved in these events, especially Ms Long. Once again, a big thank you to everyone who participated to make this day a great success! We look forward to raising even more money on Term 2’s Casual Dress Day, which will be held on Friday 7 June.

Hands On Learning

During Term 1 the students at Hands On Learning have been completing many jobs around the school grounds in order for the school tours commencing in Term 2. Students have also been very busy perfecting their wood work skills on some very intricate projects that will be revealed soon. If you know any Hands On Learning students please congratulate them on their hard work and persistence finishing jobs within set time frames. Students worked especially hard completing the balustrade and bench seats that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but fully functional as well.  Congratualtions HOL!

International Students Arrive at Frankston High School

We would like to welcome Hana Shimamoto from Japan & Ana Josviak from Brazil to our school.  Both girls arrived in the school holidays & will be studying here till the end of Term 3.

Shanghai Principals Visit our School

On Monday 20 April, our school hosted a visit from Shanghai by 20 Principals looking at our curriculum & observing the differences in education.  They were very impressed with our facilities & the way we taught our students.  Together they have over 200,000 students in their schools in China!  We were fortunate to see one of our International students, Nadja Xu play her clarinet, the robotics class in the STEM centre was a highlight & then they were impressed to hear a didgeridoo being played as part of another class.  It was a very interesting visit for everyone.
