Senior School News

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday and Easter break.  It has been very pleasing to see that students have utilised these holidays in completing homework and preparing study notes and summaries.  I would like to thank our teachers, many of whom made themselves available to assist students with their work over the holiday period.

Congratulations to Jade Roberts, Lily Chapple, Zoe Cox and Anzali Nedumara

Our student leaders – Jade Roberts, Lily Chapple, Zoe Cox and Anzali Nedumaran recently had the pleasure to attend the C4GF Louisa Dunkley Women in Parliament forum.

Below is an article by the girls on their experience and what a valuable opportunity this was in attending the forum.

Politics is often portrayed under a negative light through the media, which has left our younger generation, especially women, confused and intimidated by what it offers. On Thursday 28 March we were lucky enough to attend a women in politics forum hosted at McClelland Gallery. This event allowed us as students and women to view the world of politics from a different perspective, our guest speakers, Sonya Kilkenny, Julia Banks and Cindy McLeish, all local women of peninsula politics, discussed their entry into parliament and the intricacies that follow their endeavour for change. Their experiences as women in power provided a trustworthy insight for us to see the true, unguarded nature of politics, instead of the exaggerated process as seen through television. The undermining moral of the event taught us that in order for change to proceed, as individuals, we must take action when we see indecision instead of waiting for movement. We were also enlightened to meet other key figures in Frankston society such as lawyers and councillors who also shared their experiences of their careers. Overall, this wonderful opportunity provided to us gave us a greater insight on the true meaning of politics and the importance of women in this role of power.   We would like to thank Frankston High School and Ms Trudy Poole for providing this opportunity for us to attend the forum.

Congratulations To Zoe Cox

Zoe recently attended a community forum at Cube 37, representing brilliantly Frankston High School and the youth of Frankston.

Zoe has written the following report on her experience.

On Sunday 31 March I participated in an amazing opportunity and a great Frankston initiative, a community forum. I was on the panel alongside Ms Ginevra Hosking, the CEO of the Committee for Greater Frankston and Mr David Cross, a keen member of the Frankston community and Frankston High School’s Council President.

The forum was hosted by Rev. Tim Costello, and was set in the year 2030, as we were encouraged to think about the future of Frankston. The afternoon was a terrific experience as I was able to share my opinions, concerns and hopes for the future of Frankston, as well as listening not only to my fellow panel members, but engaging with local member Mr Chris Crewther MP and candidates Ms Peta Murphy and Mr Spencer Porter.

I would like to thank the Frankston Music Festival for organising and allowing me to be a part of a wonderful event. I would also like to thank Mr John Albiston, Ms Helen Wilson, Mr Glenn Fischmann, Ms Elise Roper and Mrs Cindy Bryant for helping me prepare for the forum and supporting me on the day.

A final thank you to Mr David Cross for providing this opportunity for me and his support and encouragement.

Parent Student Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all parents, guardians and students who attended these conferences.  The feedback was extremely positive and it was reassuring to know how much the school community values the excellent work of our teachers.  These conferences provide an important opportunity for parents, students and teachers to work together to further improve learning outcomes.

I would like to remind parents and students of the attendance policy in the senior school.  Seven unexcused absences in a study and/or fifteen absences in a study results in an N result for that study.  Students must ensure all absences are annotated by the coordinators or office staff on the absence card in their diary.  Students must also ensure this is shown to all of their classroom teachers.  In order for the absence to be excused, parents/guardians must provide a note with a specific reason for the absence:  illness, funeral etc.
