FREE 'Wicking Bed' Workshop

Come and join us at a ‘hands on’ workshop where you can learn about ‘wicking beds’ and participate in making a real one for community gardens.

Run by an ethical permaculture and garden support professional, you will learn valuable information about how these garden beds work and how to make one yourself.

What is a ‘Wicking Bed’ and how does it work?

A wicking bed is a raised garden bed that contains a water reservoir underneath the growing area. This is made up of round rocks and perforated pipe and is separated from the soil by a layer of landscaping fabric.

Water is automatically wicked upwards towards the top of the soil to irrigate the plants, encouraging deeper root growth and reducing the maintenance and watering of the garden.

The Eco Team is proud to announce they have organised a screening of the soon to be released film ‘2040’ at Hoyts Cinemas in Frankston.

2040 is a hybrid feature documentary that looks to the future. Award-winning director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film) embarks on a journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream. Structured as a visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, Damon blends traditional documentary with dramatized sequences and high-end visual effects to create a vision board of how these solutions could regenerate the world for future generations.

Tickets are available at $16 each. The screening will be held from 6.30pm to just after 8.30pm on Tuesday 28 May. Seating is limited.
