Principal's Report

Our students have been working hard, both in and out of the classroom this week as they engaged in a variety of learning and extracurricular activities at the school and within the local community. We are so fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff at ACPS that work tirelessly to develop and provide our students with engaging and dynamic learning experiences. In particular, this week’s learning had a strong focus on the 21st Century skills of collaboration, creativity and communication.
I had the pleasure of joining a session in our Performing Arts Theatre on Wednesday where our Year 5 / 6 students shared their soundscape projects from Performing Arts, with their Prep buddies and Year 1 students. In these projects the students had taken children’s books and carefully incorporated sounds at different points in the story to accentuate key features. On Thursday, I accompanied Mrs Bailey and our School Choir to Bupa Aged Care in Donvale. Our Choir performed beautifully to a large group of residents and I could not have been more proud of the way they represented themselves and our school. Our students were euphonious with their voices, generous with their smiles, and I know they made a huge positive impact to the residents at Donvale. A big thank you to Bupa Aged Care for having us , to Mrs Bailey for her brilliant work with the Choir and to our parent helpers on the day.
Though I was not able to join the Year 3 / 4 Melbourne Zoo excursion I have heard really positive feedback from the students and staff that attended. Luck was on our side with the weather and with the animals which were out and active across the day. Close to my heart as a former Biology teacher, the students explored the interrelatedness between species, habitats and survival. Including a focus on the importance of conservation. A huge thank you to the staff that planned and facilitated the day, along with our parent helpers who accompanied.
In the coming weeks, we have a number of other exciting events and activities planned in and out of our classrooms. See below and keep an eye on Compass for more information.

This is an opportunity for students to proudly show off their classroom and learning and give their Grandparent of special persons an insight into their day. We will be providing a light Morning Tea at the end of the morning and invite everyone to stay for a chat with eachother and our staff.
FOOD DRIVE MONTH
We have been contacted by CareNet and Bendigo Bank advising of a shortage of non-perishable food items in our local foodbanks.
With this in mind we are running a food drive for the month of May to support CareNet and the Warrandyte Food Bank.
We encourage families to support this wonderful initiative and support local families in need.
CareNet and the Warrandyte Food Bank have given us a list of the most needed/wanted items that families need.
To make it easier we have allocated each grade item/s to collect.

'Monster Island' Book Launch
Thanks to Eltham Bookshop, we are holding a Book Launch at ACPS!
George Ivanoff, the very successful children's author of the popular 'Choose Your Own Ending' series, is launching his new book 'Monster Island' on Sunday 4th June in the ACPS Performance Theatre. Included in the presentation is a workshop with George, afternoon tea and a signed copy of his new book. This is a first-time event for ACPS and a very exciting opportunity for us all.
