Harmony Day

Celebrating our Cultural Diversity

Celebrate With Us

Although Harmony Day is generally celebrated on March 21st, we delayed our school festivities so our new school principal, Mr Paul Sharp, can be introduced to our school community in a fun, celebratory way.

On the day, students are encouraged to wear traditional dress or something orange (symbolising harmony), or colours that represent the flag of their family's heritage.

Next Thursday - April 27th, we will be hosting HARMONY DAY, and we would like to invite any parents, siblings and family friends who are available to join us for any part of the day.

A brief outline of the day includes:

  • We are starting the day with a short liturgy to celebrate the diversity of our school at 9.00 am.
  • Listening to a picture storybook read by parents in their home language and translated into English by their children (+ one teacher...thank you, Ms Feddersen).
  • Craft activities before the first break
  • African Drumming at 12.45 pm.
  • Making origami hearts at 1.45 pm

So once again, if anyone would like to join us for any part of the day - please come along and celebrate with us on Thursday, April 27th.

Stories about Harmony, Diversity and Acceptance

We read so many beautiful picture storybooks to children at school about cultural diversity, acceptance and empathy. Harmony Day is another opportunity to remind children about embracing diversity.

Below are three online stories about diversity and acceptance you might like to listen to with your children. The first is called "All People Are Beautiful,"  the second is, "Where Are You From?" and the third one is called, "All Are Welcome."
