COLLEGE INFORMATION
OPEN EVENING
This is an opportunity for students and their families to find out information about the college prior to enrolling them into MESC. We run this evening in a Q&A format where audience members can ask any question and receive an authentic response from one of the panel members. We highly encourage all future families to attend one of our tours to see the college running in real time.

CHANGE OF CONTACT DETAILS
Almost all information is forwarded to families via email. It is important to keep the College updated of any changes to email addresses, as well as other changes such as address and telephone numbers. Notification of changes can be done via Compass or emailed to the College at info@mesc.vic.edu.au
ABSENCES OR LATENESS
Parents are reminded to notify the College Absentee Office before 9:00am if their student will be absent or late for school for any reason (holidays, appointments, sick). Parents can add an Attendance Note for an upcoming Absence. Click ‘Add Attendance Note (Approved Absence/Late)’. A screen will open. Select the applicable reason from the drop down list: add in any additional information if applicable in the Details/Comment box. Select the start and finish date/time of the absence and click ‘Save’.
ADD AN ATTENDANCE NOTE FOR AN UNEXPLAINED ABSENCE
If your child has been marked Not Present without an explanation, you will be required to add an Attendance Note. You will see an alert on your home screen. Click the alert and it will take you to your child’s ‘Unexplained’ attendance tab where you will see any sessions marked as Not Present or Late. Select the session (or sessions) that you are adding a note for and then click ‘Explain with Attendance Note’. This will cause the Attendance Note screen to pop up. Select the applicable reason for the absence and add in the relevant details/comment. Click ‘Save’. This will assign the attendance note to the sessions you selected and they will update to no longer show as unexplained absences.
CONSENT AND PAY FOR AN EVENT
If your child has an upcoming event that requires your consent and/or payment, you will see an alert on your home screen. Click the alert and it will take you to the Events page. On the ‘Action Centre’ tab you will see any events requiring your action. If you have more than one student at the school, events will be listed here under each child. Click the event you wish to action. You will see the details of the event. Next will be any administrative information that you are required to review and respond to. You will then be required to provide consent and payment (not all will require both, it will vary depending on the type of event). Once you have completed the consent/payment, the event will update to show your child as ‘Attending’.
The ‘Events’ tab will show all events, both processed and those still requiring you action. To access information on upcoming events that you have already processed, click the event.

Parents and guardians are responsible for the cost of medical treatment for injured students and transport costs including Ambulance transport in an emergency situation.
Student accident insurance policies are available for purchase through a number of insurance companies. Mount Eliza Secondary College is not in a position to recommend an insurance company as this is a personal choice depending on your circumstances.
Parents are also reminded that Department of Education and Mount Eliza Secondary College do not provide insurance for personal possessions of any description including motor vehicles, for damage or theft at the College or on the College grounds. If insurance coverage is required we recommend you contact your insurance provider for further information.
VICTORIAN POLICE NOTIFICATION SERVICE
STOPIT service
STOPIT is a new Victoria Police text notification service enabling commuters, including school students, to report any form of inappropriate behaviour that makes them feel uncomfortable, frightened or threatened on the public transport network.
How STOPIT works
The STOPIT service enables commuters to use their mobile phone to promptly, easily and discreetly report inappropriate behaviours.
To use the service, commuters simply text ‘STOPIT’ to 0499 455 455. This triggers an automated response that includes a link to where the commuter can provide more details about what’s just happened.
When people report these types of inappropriate behaviours, police can investigate and identify offenders to improve safety on public transport for everyone.
Parents and carers are encouraged to consider discussing the new service with students who travel on public transport. Students who use mobile phones outside of school hours are encouraged to save the STOPIT number in their mobile phone.
Please note, STOPIT is for reporting non-urgent incidents on public transport. Always phone 000 in an emergency.
For more information, refer to sexual and anti-social behaviour on public transport on the Victoria Police website.
