Principals Report

Katie Klajnblat

Last week I think we all felt a little sad as we said good bye to Mr. Cooper. As the Principal for the past three and a bit years he has made a huge impact on us all. It was wonderful to see the students, staff and community join us for his farewell assembly. Our school leaders spoke with pride as they acknowledged all that Mr. Cooper has bought to our school and we thank School Councilor Selby- Lynn for her kind and thoughtful words. I know Rohan was very moved by all the well wishes he received on the day and via the online Padlet. We wish Rohan all the best for his new endeavour and know that our community will always be Proud to be at Port.

Next week we celebrate Education Week with some open mornings planned where parents/carers and grandparents are invited into our classrooms to learn about our work and perhaps join in some activities and games. We will open our classrooms on Tuesday and Thursday from 8.45 - 9.30am and on Wednesday for Grandparents Morning from 8.45 - 9.50am. Please take the chance to pop into the library on Wednesday if you would like to sponsor a book.

Our fantastic Prep team will also run an information night on Tuesday 16th for our future 2024 Prep parents.

I met with our traffic safety working group this week to continue discussions about providing the safest possible road conditions around our school. With two local councillors in attendance there were positive conversations about future projects. If the success of the new ‘kiss and go’ zone is anything to go by we look forward to working with the community on the next undertaking.

Our teachers are currently continuing to ensure all students are being challenged at their ‘point of need’. This week they spent valuable Professional Learning time looking at Data Triangulation in preparation for report writing time. This allows teachers to use various samples of data to make an informed decision on where their students are currently situated against the Victorian Curriculum.

Finally, this week we celebrated Mother’s Day with students having the opportunity to visit the Mother’s Day Stall and purchase a gift. Thank you to the PFA and all the volunteers who assisted with this. We hope all our families have a very special day on Sunday.

Regards,

Katie - Acting Principal
