Visual Art 

The Term 4 Unit of Inquiry is called “Animal Surrealism”, which integrates with the Transdisciplinary theme- “Sharing the Planet”. The Unit focuses on Zoology illustrations and Surrealist art to explore the range of animal species and the importance of artistic representation inspired by the artist Albrecht Durer, Ernst Haeckel and Max Ernst. 

 

Students Create

  • A Pop-up puppet inspired by Dreamer Puppet Incursion, incorporating different aspects of an animal. 
  • An Animal mix collage/illustration inspired by the works of the Surrealist movement.   Applying effective illustration skills to capture detail, tone and form within the drawing element. 
  • A print landscape design for inside a Bell Jar to be used to frame and complete the Surrealist illustration piece.

 The student will be able to   

  • Explain what endangered animals that Japan has and tell where they live in Japan.   
  • Tell why the animals are in danger and tell what Japanese people do to protect them.   
  • Say and spell the names of the endangered animals in Japanese. 
  • Make a poster (a drawing and spelling) of a Japanese endangered animal. 
  • Sing an animal song in Japanese (GENKOTSU YAMA NO TANUKI SAN; a racoon dog song). 
  • Listen to an old story of Japan (a racoon and a tea kettle) and tell what happens in the story. 
  • Enjoy Christmas craft activities that Japanese children do in Japan. 

 Physical Education

The term 4 unit we are focusing on is- How we organize Ourselves 

  

  

Focus: Ball Handling, Game Sense/Minor Games, Navigation, Tactics 

  

The students will be developing game sense and more complex movement skills within game situations using the skills they have previously learnt.  

Focus will be on Newcombe, Orienteering, and Ultimate Vortex (Based on Ultimate Frisbee Game).  

 

Students will also focus on using knowledge of games, working in groups and awareness of rules, tactics and equipment. 

  

Concepts: Function- Understanding that all games have a purpose and an outcome and understanding their role within that game. What makes games work the way they do and how we organize ourselves to be in correct positions.

Library  

  

All students are encouraged to borrow books from the Library. The focus is on reading for enjoyment, interest and information. The children also have the opportunity to practise their borrowing skills and further their love of reading. 

The Library program also supports and extends the units of inquiry being studied in each year level and provides classrooms with resources to enrich the units offering varied forms of information
