Brooke's Message

Friday 18th November

Dear Parents/Carers,

Not for the first I am questioning how this year has gone by so quickly, we are now over half way through our final term for 2022 and preparations for next year are in full swing.

Term 4 is always a busy term for everyone, but equally, as I have mentioned before, a time for reflection, to take a moment and be proud of our students and our staff, and appreciate the wonderful melting pot 2022 has been, full of fun and personal growth.

PASS

Last week we were invited to a PASS (Principals Association for Specialist Schools) awards night.  The event is a chance to celebrate and recognise some of the incredible contributions of our staff.  I am proud to share with you that we had 2 members of staff shortlisted, and they both won!

Monika Michailides for her introduction of Bunji and our amazing Melton SS Wellbeing Dog Program.

Jamie Polich for his ground-breaking changes, embedding indigenous perspectives within our school community.

While ‘I’ am unapologetically biased, both Monika and Jamie’s contributions stood head and shoulders above some of the other nominees.

Melton Specialist School is fast becoming a benchmark for other aspiring schools and this is due, in no small part, to you and your support for your children and the school as a whole, and the truly inspirational staff we are so fortunate to have.

Congratulations Melton SS!

Prep Transitions

Prep transitions are one of my favourite times of the year as we look forward to meeting our new students – transition days are booked for:

30th November 2022     10 – 11.00 a.m.

 2nd December 2022     10 – 11.00 a.m.

13th December 2022     3.30 – 4.00 p.m.

Parking carpark 4

Please note that there will be no parking in carpark 4 in week 9.  As the new build begins to reach an end, the access is needed to accommodate additional contractors.

As difficult as it is presently, please find an alternative pick up and drop off location for the entire week.

Class Groupings

The PCT and the Leadership Team have been working hard on the 2023 class lists.

During this process we look at the needs of every student in the school both academically and socially. We have asked each student which three other students they work well with and one student they work less well with. This helps us further to allocate students to suitable classes.

As I am sure you will appreciate, particularly with the increased growth of the school, we cannot respond to parent specific requests for teachers or teaching staff but it is our expectation that all teams will be providing a high level of individualised support for each student.

New Build

And the countdown begins!

Student Pick up and Drop off

Increased Police Presence – Coburns Road & Slip Lane

Please remember not to line up and double park outside Gate 1.

We understand that at times this is frustrating and you may have to do a loop – this is why we ask that parents and carers do not arrive before 8:55am.

Police have been present and parents have been fined for double parking. If you miss the school bus please drop your child off through the loop in Gate 1 after 9am.

Please can you also ensure that your children are correctly secured in their booster seats or with a seatbelt as we have observed cars being stopped.

Best wishes

Brooke
