Celebrating our  fabulous Foundies!

FA - Miss Zoe

In maths this week we have been learning about measurement of weight. We have been using the balance scales to compare and order items. We ‘hefted’ the items with our hands to estimate the order of heaviest to lightest. Then we used the gems to measure ‘how many gems heavy’ each item is and then change the order if needed. Here Everly and Archer are working beautifully together to measure their object's weight.

In science this week with Miss Elisa, Mackenzie enjoyed the experiment where students made a design first on their piece of paper towel and then used the pippetes to drop water on the paper towel, to explore the concept of absorption.

This week in FB students have been working hard on our new inquiry topic- Animals! They have loved watching ‘Amazing Animals’ from the National Geographic Channel, making animals with playdoh and shapes during fine motor as well as writing short sentences during our literacy rotations. On top of all of that, students have been writing their own information reports about different Australian animals such as the Kangaroo and Platypus! Take a look at Remy’s fantastic writing about the Kangaroo and Penny’s super work on the Platypus!

This week in maths students have been learning about weight/mass. Students have been using words such as lighter and heaver, hefting, and estimation during these sessions.  Students have enjoyed hefting objects and estimating which was heavier and checking if they were right by using the balancing scales. They also enjoyed ordering objects from lightest to heaviest by using the balancing scales and measuring their weight by the amount of gems needed to balance them. In the pictures below Annie and Yuvan worked hard as a team as they were working out the weight of a wooden lollipop. Layla and Olive worked great together and ordered their objects from lightest to heaviest, they used sticky notes to record how many gems they needed per object. What amazing mathematicians we have in Fb!

FC - Miss Ady

This week we are absolutely LOVING the efforts our Foundation students have put into their Share and Learn.

Students chose an animal and then presented some facts about this animal similar to an information report.

Freya H completely blew us away with her presentation about geese, including feathers and eggs (hard boiled thankfully) from her own geese at home. We learnt so much from her quiz – well done Freya!

Heidi wowed us with her beautiful poster all about Peacocks and loved pointing to each section whilst holding her peacock feather! She spoke so confidently and her audience were very engaged.

Students have also loved measuring the different objects around the room to decide which one is heavier. They do this firstly by ‘hefting’ while balancing two objects in each hand and then carefully placing each item in the balance scales to check.

Sam T and Sienna S worked really well together during this activity.
