The Season Of ADVENT Begins
Catholic Identity Year 6 Leadership Team
This week, the students in the Catholic Identity Team have been very busy delivering Advent Wreaths and candles to each classroom for the beginning of Advent this weekend. The students also delivered a short presentation to the classes about the meaning of Advent and the St Brendan's Giving Tree. Please take some time to check more information in this week's newsletter about our 2022, Giving Tree.
ADVENT The 27th November marks the beginning of Advent. Advent is a Latin word that means ‘coming’. It is the time of year for preparation and waiting for the birth of Jesus and therefore leading up to the most wonderful time of the year - Christmas. Advent marks a new stage in the liturgical cycle. Purple is the colour that symbolises Advent. A wreath is also a symbol of Advent. The Advent Wreath is a circular evergreen wreath with five candles. There are 3 purple, 1 pink and a white candle - each representing hope, faith, joy, peace and the centre candle (the white candle) is the Christ Candle. The students will be learning about these symbols in class and lighting the special candles each week in the lead up to Christmas.
