Week 7

Learning News

This week is our last week to focus on persuasive writing.  The students have been working on a range of topics and styles of persuasion, from an exposition (persuading on one point of view) to a debate (arguing points of view against an opponent).  The focus has been on using the correct structure, such as paragraphs to organise and separate the arguments, strong modality (using powerful words that create an impact), emotive language to tug on the heart strings and of course strong arguments. Apologies if your students are so much better at arguing for that special something!

Kindergarten

This week, Kindergarten enjoyed engaging in a science investigation! In Science, we have been learning about materials and their properties. We were introduced to the term ‘waterproof’ and we discovered that when clothing is ‘waterproof’ it means that the material helps protect us from getting wet. We decided to make our own waterproof clothing for our special teddies. We used foil and plastic as our waterproof materials. Our Kindergarteners worked very hard on creating their teddies outfits, thinking about how to shape the material and keep it held together using masking tape. We kept trying even when our first idea didn’t work. After lots of perseverance, we made some wonderful waterproof costume designs. Well done to our Kindergarten scientists!

Stage 1

This week in Literacy, Stage 1 students have been attempting to write using paragraphs. They have learned that a paragraph needs more than one sentence, correct punctuation and a line is left to show the different parts of the text type. This week's exposition topic was ‘Should zoos still exist’ and they had to try and convince their readers to agree with their opinion. Another focus was on the use of wow words to make their writing more interesting including definitely, extinct, enclosure.

Stage 2

This week Stage 2 have been using their impressive research skills to write an information report on a unique animal of their choosing. In order to complete this they have had to use a range of information sources to gather and compose a written report. We are currently in the process of publishing our information into a slideshow presentation. Keep up the good work Stage 2! Miss McDonald and Mr Beaumont.

Stage 3

Which season is best? That’s what our stage 3 students have been writing about this week. Students picked their favourite season; Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring. Students used their knowledge and skills of persuasive writing to persuade their audience that their favourite season is best. There were some great points being presented by everyone and it was interesting to hear and read their reasonings.

Special Spring

By Madeline Trotter

What do you suppose comes of snow when it melts??..…Spring comes!! Spring is my favourite time of the year, I mean what’s not to love, there's so much new life around with all the baby animals being born, all the beautiful flowers blooming and the temperature is just right for everyone it being not to hot or cold and all. Spring is just special.

You may think ‘oh summer is so fun’ or ‘winter is the best’, well that’s not what I’m here to talk about!! I suppose you’ve heard about flora and fauna, well spring has so much fauna around because of it being breeding season, I mean the baby animals are so cute especially if you own a farm with all the baby lambs and calves. Spring is the best season when it comes to baby animals.

Do you like seeing all the beautiful and colourful flowers blooming, I mean spring is so pretty, sure winter and autumn are pretty too but spring is beautiful. All the pretty and delicate rows of flowers on flower farms and the flowers out front of my school are so pretty at spring. Spring is beautiful.

What do you like more h-h-hot summer with ice cream or c-c-cold winters with hot chocolate and coffee? Can’t decide, choose spring!! I mean I’ve given you lots of reasons but this one is one of the strongest reason why spring is the best season, why because you can do both summer and winter in spring!! I mean autumn is just starting to get cold but spring has both seasons, it’s the best of both worlds. Spring is by far the best season!!

Super Summer

By Eli Handsaker

I don't even have to tell you about the best season ever. You would already already know that summer is the best season! I will tell you why, because in summer you can go to the pool and the beach. It's always nice to go inside if you are hot and put a fan in front of you to cool down. It does rain a lot but sometimes when it clears up there is a rainbow.

Summer is also especially awesome because of all the clothes that you could wear. Such as shorts, t-shirts, sunglasses and much more. The clothes are very good because they don’t make you too hot nor cold.

Summer is THE BEST season. It has the longest holidays of the year that are warm and hot. Also they are the best holidays because Christmas is in Summer.

So therefore in conclusion and with all the information I have given such as going to the pool, the rainbows, the clothes, the weather and the holidays I don’t even have to say it.  You obviously know what I’m going to say………Summer is obviously the best season EVER!
