Principals Report

Every Student Known, Valued and Cared For
This week the NSW Department of Education has launched a new initiative that links with their 2018-2022 Strategic Directions. I have attached a copy 2018-2022 Strategic Directions to this newsletter. The Secretary of the NSW Department of Education, Mr. Mark Scott and Murat Dizdar, Deputy Secretary, School Operations and Performance addressed NSW Principals by video link on 20th November 2018 to launch the new initiative.
At Guyra Central School we believe that we are well placed to ensure that every Student is Known, Valued and Cared For. We pride ourselves with being able to provide your child with individual and personalised learning opportunities. Our K-12 setting provides us with the privilege to educate your whole family and to take the opportunity to share information and staff support throughout their transitional years. We are able to minimise class size and tailor make experience's based on passion and required level of educational support. High expectations for all and provision of whatever support is needed individually to provide your child with a bright future.
During Week 5 of Term 4 the Police Liaison Officer, Jamie Porter and Chris her colleague from Crime Prevention Squad visited the school and spoke with Year 7 and Year 8 students about Cyber Safety, this was very well received by our students. They will return to the school to speak to Year 9 and Year 10 students in the coming weeks and we are now looking at dates for our younger students. On Thursday 15th November 2018 our Police visitors held a Parent Information Session on Cyber Safety. It was not particularly well attended but I know for a fact that each of the parents and their children who attended were very grateful for the information and were able to clarify some of the questions that they had around these issues.
I would not be telling the truth if I told you that the use of mobile phones within the school was not something that I have concerns about. I have been in discussion with the Parents and Citizens Association of Guyra Central School, with our local Police, my school Director and Principal colleagues around this subject area. I will be attending the Secondary Principals' Council Reference Group for Student Wellbeing during Week 6 and will be raising Cyber Safety Prevention for careful consideration. I will be proposing that Guyra Central School hold a Cyber Safety Community Forum before the end of the year. In particular, I would like to focus on mobile phone use in the school. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your thoughts surrounding this area of concern.
On Saturday 24th November we will be holding a sale of pre-loved school furniture. The furniture has been obsolete from the classrooms over a period of time and stored in the General Assistant's shed. Furniture will be reasonably priced and on display for sale in the Guyra Central School Gymnasium between 10.00- 2.00 on Saturday, proceeds will be shared between the P&C and SRC.
Thanks
