From Eliot Sanger

As we near the end of not only Term 4 but the end of the year, the Calrossy Secondary School is a buzz with business. As all our students and parents are fully aware, we have just navigated our way through the end of semester junior examinations and teachers are currently preparing reports on student progress and results. I hope that all our students are looking forward to reading their reports feedback on their overall development through the second half of this year.

Year 9 Boys Expedition

After a couple of false starts and postponements, the Year 9 Boys Expedition took place last week. With much of NSW ablaze in bushfires, the Barrington area in the Upper Hunter was safe (but smoky) for the boys to head out and enjoy this wonderful part of the country and each other’s company. The boys had a wonderful time participating in a range of activities including mountain biking, rafting, campsite games and some awesome fireside chats. A huge thank you to Mr Scott for his leadership and organisation, and Mr Price, Mr McDonald and Mr Fletcher for their commitment to running such a successful and enjoyable expedition. The boys have returned with may stories of their experiences. Have a look at the photos!

Well done, boys!

“Calrossy in Concert” – Secondary Performing Arts Night

This week we have been treated to a celebration of the gifts and talents of our students involved in Performing Arts. The night was filled with Music, Dance, Poetry and Drama. There was something in the program for everyone from classical pieces from Mozart and Ravel, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Jazz, Folk and Pop, to the recitation of Poetry and Drama monologues. There were instrumental, vocal and dance soloists, as well as small ensembles, bands, troupes and super groups! Overall, it was wonderful to see our boys and girls coming together as One School to celebrate the Performing Arts and our gifted artists. It was so encouraging to see our boys and girls being given the space to demonstrate their differences as well as the opportunity for choirs and ensembles that represented the combined school that we are today, Calrossy together!

A huge thank you to Mrs Turner and Mrs Ward, the respective Heads of Music and Creative and Performing Arts, and their teams, the staff supporting them and of course, the students. It was a superb evening! Well done to all! Please enjoy the photos.

With two weeks to go, please be regularly checking the parent portal to the HUB for updates regarding dates, events and details for events that will involve your children. It’s a busy time and there are many events still to come.

Please note, Secondary Presentation Day is scheduled in the calendar for Thursday 12 December 2019 and will commence on the William Cowper Campus at 9am.   I look forward to celebrating our students’ achievement at this important school event. I hope to see you there!
