P.E

What a jam-packed-full of sports and fun Term 2 has been here at NPS! I have had the most wonderful time getting to know each and every one of our students, and cannot wait to continue strengthening those relationships further in Term 3.

Below is a breakdown of all the amazing activities that the students have been a part of in Term 2:

  • The NPS Cross Country Championships
  • The Districts Cross Country Championships
  • The Australian Sporting Schools 4 week-long AFL skills learning program
  • 4 week-long intensive Basketball skills program that focused on further developing the student’s fundamental movement skills as well as the object-control skills of throwing, catching, and bouncing.

The Term 3 program is shaping up nicely, and at this point, the sports and activities that are organised include:

  • The NPS Athletics Carnival (Friday 16th, first week back).  The grade 4/5/6 students will take part in shot put, discus, long jump, and  the 100m sprints.  The F/1 and 2/3 students will be encouraged to participate in hands-on and fun games such as, parachutes, egg and spoon races, sack races, rob the nest, and 50m sprints. More information regarding the carnival and whether, due to Covid regulations parents may attend, will be provided as soon as that information is made clear to us.
  • Jiu Jitsu
  • Tennis
  • Netball
  • Skipping (in lead up to Jump Rope for Heart Term 4).

Thank you so much for the support you have provided me with this term. I have learned so much, had the best time, and feel incredibly blessed to have such an amazing and inspiring group of students to work with.  Enjoy your holidays.  Be safe, and I will see you all soon.

Artes Escénicas (Performing Arts)

It has been a very busy term, full of surprises! Lockdown happened and impacted our onsite lessons, but that didn't stop our students from continuing our programs online from home. It has been amazing to see the flexibility and resilience of our students, with the support from parents and our staff in continuing with remote learning for two weeks.

In Artes Escénicas (Performing Arts), all students focused on Danza (Dance). They collaborated in groups to create a choreography using a song and a dance sequence taught by me, with a Just Dance video as a visual for the younger grades.

Everyone worked well, despite missing out on more than 3-4 weeks of Specialist onsite lessons. We filmed the dance choreographies this week and have uploaded these onto Seesaw for our community to see the unique, creative and impressing dancing skills, our students have shown so far! Our students performed for the other grades on Wednesday (Parent Teacher Meetings) and it was wonderful to see their confidence shine through! I am so proud of every one of our students! Keep it up! :)

Term 3 en Artes Escénicas (Performing Arts)

Next term, Drama will be the focus in Artes Escénicas (Performing Arts). We will be incorporating the Inquiry topics from every cohort into the lessons, with a Spanish language focus.

I cannot wait to see the performance skills that students will experience and present using Los Elementos de Drama: Personaje, Relaciones, Situación, Voz, Movimiento, Enfoque, Tensión, Espacio, Tiempo, Lenguaje, Símbolo, Audiencia, Ánimo y Atmósfera (Character, Relationships, Situation, Voice, Movement, Focus, Tension, Space, Time, Language, Symbol, Audience, Mood and Atmosphere).

Spectacular Mass Dance 2021

We have been enjoying Spectacular rehearsals at school and even online during lockdown! A huge thanks to our dedicated group of Spectacular dancers, for always showing responsibility by turning up to rehearsals on time with such great energy and enthusiasm! Also for showing care by supporting each other in learning all the 6 dance choreographies! I am so impressed and proud of you all! You are doing amazing! :)

There will still be a live show at the John Cain Arena on Saturday, 11th September! We are still so excited and extra ready to keep dancing!

There will be more rehearsals for Rounds 2 and 3 occurring at our hosting school, Ivanhoe East PS in Term 3. The next dates for rehearsals are:

  • Thursday 22nd July - 10am - 2:30pm
  • Monday 23rd August - 10am - 2:30pm
  • Friday 27th August - 10am - 2:30pm

It is important that all students are at school by 8:45am the latest, as the bus will pick us up at 9am sharp again, to then pick up Bell PS as a shared ride.

I have sent the Dropbox links to all dance songs via our VSS21 Spectacular Teams, where all videos and details of all choreographies can be accessed.

I will continue to notify you of any further updates or changes via Sentral and the Newsletter. Please watch this space, gracias! :)

Artes Visuales

From me to everyone in the NPS school community I would like to say a big '!Adiós amig@s!' It has been such a pleasure to get to know you all in my brief time here and I wish you all the best in your future studies and art-making.

A highlight for me this term has been the 'Lockdown drawing competition'. Over 100 students entered and I was extremely impressed by the effort and creativity that went into the drawings. Below are some of the winning entries, you should all feel very proud of yourselves!

In addition to some great work made during lockdown, the 4/5/6s have been 3D printing in the artroom; the 2/3s have been making clay animals (linking to their Inquiry projects); and the F/1s have been exploring Kulin Nations' seasons and doing some observational drawings of clues that tell us we are currently in the Warin/ Wombat season. It's been a great term! I hope you all keep drawing and making things over the school holidays :) !Hasta la vista!
