Leadership

The Term that was.......

Yes, Covid did re-enter our world and was an interruption, and yes it was a blow, but we didn't let it get us down! The kids, the teachers and you, our parents got on with learning, and again a great deal of positivity was on display.

As we are all aware there was again some great learning going on across the school and the teachers fully engaged the children in all aspects of the curriculum. It was great to see Graeme get down with the our Foundation/Year One students and explore robotics and coding.

OOSHC

Our program has now officially expanded to 80 spaces per day. This is great news for our community. Unfortunately we cannot increase the number of places above this number. We understand that demand is high for care, and that there are particular days in greater demand than others. Rhonda has provided a awaiting list for parents to register their interest in case of cancellations or families withdrawing from the service. We would also like to reinforce that the service is for working families who have no other option for before or after care. We ask that parents be respectful and appreciate that Rhonda can only provide space if there is space available.

Visual Arts teacher - Bess

Bess our visual arts teacher finished at Newlands this week, and will not return for term 3. We wish her all the best for the future in her further career pursuits. We are currently advertising for her replacement for the remainder of 2021.

Daisy Day new 2/3 teacher

I'd like to inform the 2/3 community that Daisy has been appointed to replace Cass/Ally. Daisy has been working at the school replacing Jose this week. We look forward to welcoming Daisy to the role in term three.

Thank you Ally

We would like to give Ally a big thank you for her willingness to support the school and back fill and replace Cass while we were selecting her replacement for term three. Cass will return to her previous role as tutor until she needs to start maternity leave in term 3.

Infrastructure Update

I can report to the community that we have settled on a design plan for Newlands PS. The layout of buildings and the functionality looks amazing. The spaces and how they intersect and will engage with our pedagogical model is just fantastic. Words just fail me in describing what I see as a leader and teacher for the future of Newlands based on this design. I can confirm that the target date for completion of the total rebuild is 2023.

I have attached the concept drawing of what will be constructed on the site. Further details will be provided in term three to the community.

School Dental Program

We have been notified that the school dental program will begin early term three. We will notify parents when we have the confirmed date for this.

Permission forms can still be completed and returned to the office on Monday 12th July.

Please contact Sonya if you have any questions related to this program.

RAP Meeting

Our first 2021 Reconciliation Action Plan meeting on Friday 16th June. We will be updating our school community on the actions we will be taking towards the development of this plan at a school community afternoon tea on Friday 23 July at 2:30.

We will also be holding a 'cuppa' morning for our First Nations families on Friday 30 July.

Martin Cooke

Today I received the sad news that Martin has succumbed to his illness and passed away. Martin worked at Newlands in the office for several years and was our very own unique front of house assistant. Many families in our community would remember his delightful phone manner, his more than helpful assistance at the counter and positivity. He always enthusiastically promoted the school in the community while he was part of the Newlands community.

We extend our sympathies to his family and friends at this time.

Have A Great Break

While we on holidays please take the opportunity to get break and enjoy the opportunity to catch up with family and friends.

We will see you all break on Monday 12/07/2021.
