Batyr – Engaging, Educating and Empowering Young People
Since the beginning of Term 1, Year 9 Year Adviser, Mr Vella has been working with his students on a year-long mental health program designed and supported by Batyr.
Batyr’s focus is on preventative mental health. They deliver programs created and driven by young people for young people that engage students in positive conversations about mental health. They also empower young people to reach out for support when needed.
During Batyr’s visit to Wee Waa High, Year 9 students participated in games and challenges that served to open up discussion and exploration of mental health. Mr Vella said students benefited greatly and were very engaged. It also helps them as they continue to progress on their year-long project that will see them deliver an event for the whole school that focuses on the culture and language around mental health.
Careers Expo A Great Help
A number of Year 11 and 12 students recently traveled to Tamworth to take part in the annual Careers Expo. Represented at the expo were a wide range of universities and trade training organisations with representatives on hand to answer questions and provide insight into courses students may be interested in.
Year 12 students Amelia Kiem said ‘I was a great opportunity to learn more and have your questions answered quickly and easily. I went to explore Primary Teaching and the information I came away with has confirmed for me that is exactly what I want to study. I’d like to go to the University of Newcastle and they were able to also give me information on their Early Entry program. The expo made information really accessible. It was great.’
