Ag Farm Update

It’s Been A Busy Term At The Ag Plot

Students Learn The Art Of Fencing

Year 9 and 10 students studying their Certificate II in Primary Industries have had a focus this term on fencing. Under the expert guidance of Ag teacher, Ms Bray students have been learning about the different types of fences and the farming situations that each is best suited to. As part of this they learn how about different fencing knots, when to use each of them and how to make them.

Turning theory into action, Ms Bray has worked with students to replace some of the old fences at the school’s ag plot using plain and barbed wire as well as chicken wire. Building these new fences required students to knock in new fence posts and learn how to safely strain wire.

Ms Bray explained, ‘Given fencing can have some risks attached to it, students have learnt how to anticipate and identify these risks and plan how they will go about building or repairing each fence. This includes identifying the personal protective equipment needed and drawing up a plan of how they will construct the fence, the materials they will use and the tools required’.

Ag Students Welcome New Season Lambs

Our Primary Industries students recently welcome two new lambs to their growing Dorper flock. Through raising the two male lambs on farm, students will learn about animal health and nutrition as well as strategies for preparing stock for market and the various selling strategies available to them.

Ms Bray acknowledged local Dorper breeder, Jodie Steele for generously lending her ram to the school to grow their flock.
